Kilbeggan, Monday 15 June 2026: Racing Tips
Kilbeggan under a cloudy sky with the ground riding Yielding To Soft is a combination that sorts out the genuine stayers from the pretenders. This is a track that rewards horses who travel well and jump economically, and on ground like this, the trainer angle matters enormously. Three races stand out on today’s eight-race card, and there is a strong each-way case in the big handicap chase.
4:40 โ T. Murray & Son Ltd. Beginners Chase (2m4f)
The market tells you most of what you need to know here. Le Coq Hardi is an odds-on favourite at 4/5 with BoyleSports for Henry De Bromhead, and with De Bromhead running at 9/43 over the past 14 days, the yard is in fine nick. The 7yo’s form reading of 234P-2 suggests a horse that knocks on the door without quite getting through it, but that second last time out on likely similar ground is encouraging, and Kilbeggan’s tight, undulating track suits galloping types who stay fit and jump safely.
Mike O’Connor takes the ride and knows this track. De Bromhead’s 18% course strike rate at Kilbeggan is solid and the A/E of 0.98 tells you his runners here run to their price. At 4/5 there is no value, but if you are looking for a banker in a double or treble, this is the most reliable horse on the card today.
The danger is Impero at 11/4 with BoyleSports. That 13-23 form is tidy for a beginners’ chase, and Cian Collins has been active with 2/22 in the last fortnight. On softer ground, Impero could make this competitive if Le Coq Hardi jumps with any hesitation. He is worth a small saver.
5:12 โ Mongey Communications Galway Plate Trial Handicap Chase (2m4f, 14 runners)
Rising Dust Each-Way is the selection at 5/1 with BoyleSports. Emmet Mullins has sent this horse here with clear purpose. Mullins hits 27% at Kilbeggan with an A/E of 1.09, which is a trainer who consistently delivers value at this track rather than simply running horses to make up numbers. Critically, Mullins has been firing in the last fortnight with 2/7 runners winning, a strike rate that screams a yard in form.
Rising Dust’s form of 61117 is the most compelling on the card in this race. Three wins from those last four completed runs before the dash, and while the horse was pulled or fell last season, the underlying ability is clear. Yielding To Soft should be fine for this horse, and 2m4f at Kilbeggan is a trip that suits progressive chasers with a good cruising speed.
Ricky Doyle takes the ride. With 14 runners and four places paid at 1/5 odds, the each-way case is straightforward at this price. Even if Mullins’s runner gets beaten, getting a place at 5/1 each-way terms is money well spent in a field this competitive.
Boston Rover at 8/1 with BoyleSports is the main danger. Gordon Elliott has two strings in this race and Elliott’s overall 14-day figures are strong, but Boston Rover’s last run ended in a pull-up (P) after three wins in a row, and that form line ending in 2111P makes you want to see the horse complete before getting involved at this price. Kevin Sexton is capable, but pass on the Elliott pair at those odds with that cloud hanging over them.
Wonleg at 13/2 with LiveScore Bet is interesting for De Bromhead, but 4/41 over the past fortnight suggests the yard has been quieter than its course record implies, and Wonleg’s recent form of 31635 is going in the wrong direction.
7:42 โ Paul & Carmel Fay Memorial Handicap Hurdle (3mยฝf, 14 runners)
Jacovec Cavern is the value play at 4/1 with BoyleSports. Paul Hennessy might only have had one runner in the last fortnight, but his Kilbeggan course record of 20% wins with an astonishing A/E of 3.27 tells you he picks his spots and delivers. When Hennessy turns up at Kilbeggan, you pay attention.
Jacovec Cavern’s form of 3001-2 shows a horse that got his head in front at some point this season and then ran a tidy second last time out. At three miles and a half furlong on Yielding To Soft, you need a genuine stayer with a willing attitude, and that form profile fits. Richard Condon takes the ride on a 7yo gelding that should have more to offer at this longer trip than his market position suggests.
The market favourite Cobra Queen at 3/1 with BoyleSports is trained by Henry De Bromhead and the yard’s current 14-day form of 9/40 is exceptional. But that form reading ends in a P, a pulled-up run, and at three miles on soft ground, you need to be certain a horse is right after a run like that. De Bromhead would not run a horse here without confidence, and if Cobra Queen bounces back she wins the race, but the 4/1 about Jacovec Cavern represents better risk-adjusted value given the Hennessy course angle.
Toll Stone at 13/2 for Mullins is worth a mention. Mullins’s course stats are strong and Ricky Doyle doubles up from the earlier race, but the form of /523-0 does not inspire, and that 0 last time out is a concern.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 5/1 โ BoyleSports (others: SP Betfred, 9/2 LiveScore Bet)
Emmet Mullins is the standout trainer at Kilbeggan with a 27% strike rate and an A/E of 1.09, meaning his runners consistently deliver at fair or better odds. He arrives here with a horse showing three wins in his last four completed starts, a yard running hot over the past two weeks, and a going description that suits. In a 14-runner handicap chase with four places paid, the each-way case at 5/1 is the play of the day.
