Killarney, Monday 13 July 2026: Tips and Best Bets

A seven-race card at Killarney kicks off the week, and the Kerry track throws up some genuinely interesting puzzles across three featured races. P Twomey leads the trainer stats here with a 35% strike rate and an A/E of 1.17, so anything he saddles deserves serious respect. Declan McDonogh is the jockey to follow around this track, converting at 21% with an A/E of 1.28. Keep those names front of mind as we work through the card.

5:30 โ€” Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden (1m)

Oklahoma is the jolly at 8/15 and the form reads well enough: a debut second suggests he knows what he is doing, and Wayne Lordan in the saddle for Aidan O’Brien is a confident booking. The problem is the price. You are laying out over a pound to win fifteen pence, and in a maiden with several unexposed colts, that is not a wager to excite.

The angle here is City of Dubai at 10/3, trained by P Twomey. The Twomey yard has gone 2/5 in the last 14 days and, as noted, Twomey is the standout trainer at this course with a 35% strike rate over a meaningful 48-runner sample. W J Lee is a reliable partner. City of Dubai is a debutant, so there is inherent risk, but Twomey’s two-year-olds tend to arrive ready, and 10/3 is a workable price in a race where the favourite is far too short for a maiden.

Selection: City of Dubai (10/3, LiveScore Bet)

6:00 โ€” Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race (1m)

Five runners, and the form figures make this a genuinely open affair despite Res Ipsa being sent off around 11/10. The comment data is clear: the ratings pitch Res Ipsa fourth in the field on figures, and at that price there is no margin for error.

Straight Up at 2/1 is the call. Aidan O’Brien’s yard has five wins from 33 runners in the last 14 days, and Straight Up has already won on this campaign over today’s mile trip. A 64-day break is a legitimate flag, but O’Brien’s string typically returns in good order, Wayne Lordan takes the ride, and the ratings mark him as second-best in the race. The market has him priced as a danger rather than a favourite, which is exactly where you want to be.

Mai Dahlia won just nine days ago for Joseph O’Brien and the yard is running hot at 14/53, but the comment data rates her last in the field on figures. Dylan Browne McMonagle is a fine pilot but even he cannot conjure a pound note from a rating ceiling.

Selection: Straight Up (2/1, LiveScore Bet)

7:00 โ€” Killarney Glamping Handicap (1m, 8 runners)

Eight runners, three places paid, and a race that rewards digging deeper than the front of the market.

Molto Amichi is the 6/4 favourite and the consistency is there: second last time, another second and a third in the same sequence, speed figure of 79. Earls at 5/2 has back-to-back seconds. Both are fair bets but neither screams value at those prices in an eight-runner handicap.

The selection is Grey Leader Each-Way at 14/1. A rating of 83 and a speed figure of 81 are the highest raw numbers in this field, and the comment explicitly notes the bare results undersell the horse. Proven over the mile trip, a sharp 13-day turnaround keeps the horse fresh rather than stale, and 14/1 in a race where the figures say this is well handicapped represents genuine value. Nicola Burns claims 5lbs, which helps offset the weight and effectively brings Grey Leader into the race on a competitive mark. Three places at 1/5 odds each-way means you need Grey Leader to hit the frame, and a horse rated 83 in a race where the market leader carries a 79 speed figure has every right to do exactly that.

Quatre Bras at 7/2 is the other each-way consideration: highest official rating at 86, a runner-up on this campaign, and Richard John O’Brien hits 19% at this track with an A/E of 1.33. W J Lee rides. Two blanks since that placed effort are the concern but the handicapper has not overreacted, and the 24-day turnaround suits.

Selection: Grey Leader each-way (14/1, LiveScore Bet)

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksGrey Leader โ€” Killarney Glamping Handicap (19:00, Killarney)
Odds: 14/1 โ€” LiveScore Bet

The raw figures tell a story the recent form lines do not: a rating of 83 and speed figure of 81 are comfortably the best numbers in this field, yet Grey Leader goes off at 14/1 in an eight-runner handicap. The 13-day turnaround is a positive, the trip is proven, and a 5lb claim from Nicola Burns sharpens the competitive edge. Three places on offer at 1/5 the odds each-way.
