Leicester, Thursday 25 June 2026: Flat Tips on Good To Firm Ground
A six-race card at Leicester under sunny skies, with the ground riding Good To Firm throughout. Conditions will sort out horses quickly over the sprint trips, and the faster surface puts a premium on horses proven on a sound surface. Three races catch the eye from a punting perspective, with one standout selection that ticks every box.
Tom Kiely-Marshall is the jockey angle to follow at this track. A 27% strike rate here from 11 rides, A/E of 1.55 โ that is a genuinely profitable record at the course, not a fluke. George Boughey similarly rolls up to Leicester and delivers at 24% winners, well above the average. Keep both names front of mind throughout the card.
7:45 โ Samworth Brothers Handicap (5f, Handicap, Good To Firm)
Selection: Startling (4/7, BoyleSports/Betfred)
Small field, short price, and this is not an each-way race worth complicating. Startling is the clear selection on form. She went down by just a nose-length at Southwell seven days ago off this exact handicap mark, in a performance that showed she retains all her ability. The drop back to level weights here is fine, the 5f on Good To Firm poses no problems, and J S Wainwright’s yard is in solid nick at 3 from 8 in the last fortnight.
The 4/7 is short, yes. But when a horse runs second off the same mark seven days ago and returns in a six-runner field on suitable ground, you are not looking for value, you are looking at a near-certainty. Bang On The Bell ran well to go within 2 lengths at Nottingham last time and merits respect at 3/1, but the blinkers are untested and the trainer has gone 0 from 4 in the past two weeks. Startling is the safe call.
6:15 โ British Stallion Studs EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (5f, Good To Firm)
Selection: Green Titan (10/11, BoyleSports)
Green Titan steps up sharply from a throwaway debut to a run at Salisbury last time where he went close in a novice, beaten 2 lengths in a performance full of promise. George Boughey sends him here, and Boughey is the top trainer at this track by some distance, 24% winners at Leicester, A/E of 1.09. That stat matters in a maiden where half the field are unraced or have shown very little.
The caveat is real: Green Titan showed his best form over 6f on a softer surface, and today is 5f on fast ground. That is a genuine concern. But he is trained by the right man for this venue, he clearly has ability, and the opposition around the market is thin. Chianti disappointed on debut, trainer A Watson has gone just 1 from 34 in the past fortnight โ the figures there are dire. Tallahassee Lassie finished 10 lengths behind last time. J R Fanshawe’s yard is firing well at 6 from 25 recently, but the form reads as ordinary.
Green Titan takes this on the Boughey angle and the step forward in form.
6:45 โ Greenhouse Sports Handicap (7f, Handicap, Good To Firm, 11 runners)
Selection: Moonhall Lass Each-Way (7/2, BoyleSports)
James Owen’s filly is the most interesting price on the card. Owen runs at Leicester at 19% winners, and his yard has been absolutely red-hot in the past fortnight, 9 from 40. That is a yard firing on all cylinders. Moonhall Lass arrives here with two wins in recent form, handled the 7f trip without issue, acts on Good To Firm, and the addition of a first-time visor from Billy Loughnane suggests the team thinks there is more to come.
She finished third off today’s exact mark last time, doing her best work late. In an 11-runner handicap at 7/2, the each-way case is very much alive. Three places at 1/5 odds on a horse running off a confirmed mark with a form-firing trainer behind her is good value.
No Gain at 7/4 is the jolly and the form figure at the top of the handicap, but a 4lb rise off a near-miss asks a question, and odds-on for a handicap off a career-high mark is not a bet I want. Midnight’s Dream has the keenness issues noted in the comments and the trainer has gone 0 from 2 recently. Moonhall Lass at 7/2 each-way is the bet.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 7/2 โ BoyleSports (others: 4/1 Betfred)
James Owen’s yard is running at a blistering 9 from 40 in the past fortnight, the trainer posts a 19% strike rate at this exact course, and Moonhall Lass arrives with two recent wins, a confirmed third off today’s identical mark last time, and the addition of a first-time visor from a jockey who knows this track well. Good To Firm suits, 7f suits, and at 7/2 in an 11-runner handicap she represents clear value with the placed money as a safety net.
