Six runners in the novice, and the market suggests Siwa Oasis at 6/4 is the one to beat. Charles Hills has an 18% strike rate at Leicester, and Saffie Osborne has been riding with confidence, but the form line of 2-7-5 is not exactly screaming confidence at this price. The 7 and 5 represent a sharp dip from that debut second.

The horse that catches the eye is Amazonica at 3/1 (BoyleSports, Betfred), trained by Owen Burrows who hits at 20% at this track with an A/E of 1.37, the best positive differential among the featured trainers here. An A/E above 1.0 means the yard is returning more than expected at the price, which suggests these horses are not being overestimated by punters. David Probert is a polished operator who knows how to deliver a horse at a mile and two furlongs.

Amazonica is a debut runner, so there is an unknown element, but Burrows does not run horses at 3/1 in EBF novices without belief. That is the single strongest jockey stat on the card, and in a five-runner handicap where the margins between horses are small, a claimer who knows how to win at this track is a significant weapon. The 5lb allowance brings him in at a useful weight advantage too.

Melody De Vega is the 10/11 favourite and holds a ratings advantage at 80 versus Fille Imbassee’s 69, but the comment is telling: the yard is out of form and it is 27 days since that run. Newland and Insole have had just one winner from 24 runners over the past fortnight. That is not a yard you back at odds-on. Hot Silk at 7/2 with Fanshawe’s strong course record is the each-way danger, but the winning form, hood, and the Kiely-Marshall angle make Fille Imbassee the most attractive bet at 4/1.
