Leicester, Sunday 9 August 2026 — Tips & Preview

A six-race Sunday card at Leicester on good to firm ground. Nothing flashy on paper, but there are angles worth exploiting, particularly in the 4:44 handicap where the form lines set up nicely for one runner that has been crying out for a return to these conditions. With the York Ebor Festival just nine days away, plenty of yards are using this weekend to keep horses ticking over, so trainer momentum matters more than ever right now.

Jockey-wise, keep an eye on Cieren Fallon and Silvestre De Sousa. Both post positive A/E figures at this track, with De Sousa’s 20% strike rate over a substantial 319-ride sample genuinely meaningful. When either of them shows up at Leicester, they warrant closer inspection than usual.

2:24 — Loros Irish EBF Novice Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Three runners, so each-way betting goes out the window immediately. This is a straight win market and the market tells most of the story. Al Wathba is odds-on for Charlie Appleby, who posts a 19% course record at Leicester, and the Godolphin operation is running at 8/19 in the last 14 days, which is a strong yard in form. The debutant has form figures of 2 on debut, so he has already shown ability. At 2/11, though, the return barely covers the parking fee.

The real question is whether Jimtrott at 7/2 can turn this into a race. Eve Johnson Houghton’s yard is only 3/38 in the last fortnight, which is a cold strike rate, but Jimtrott has consecutive second-place finishes (22 form) and that consistency deserves some respect in a race this small. If Al Wathba is in any way short of peak fitness or not suited by the track, Jimtrott could nick the place. For betting purposes, there is no each-way play here with only three runners, and backing Al Wathba at 2/11 is a financial non-starter unless you are purely filling in a multiple.

Selection: Al Wathba (win only, single only if staking multiples)

2:59 — Catalogue Engineering Nursery Handicap Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Greek Symphony is the horse to be on here. Oliver Cole’s yard has been operating at 3/15 in the last 14 days, which is a workable strike rate for a smaller operation, and Greek Symphony arrives off a win last time out with three placed efforts from her last three starts. That kind of form consistency in a juvenile handicap is exactly what you want to see. She carries 132lbs from stall two, which is not a disaster over seven furlongs on good to firm, and her experience at this trip and on this going means there are no excuses.

Bayside at 4/1 represents the main danger. A figure of 80 marks her out as a leading threat and that third last time out keeps her in the conversation. But Greek Symphony’s recent winning form edges it.

At 2/1 with Boyle Sports, Greek Symphony is the play. Six runners means two places paid, so each-way is available but the price is short enough that a win single makes more sense.

Selection: Greek Symphony at 2/1 (Boyle Sports)

4:44 — ADS Handicap Stakes (6f, Good To Firm)

This is the race of the day and the one that offers the most interesting betting opportunity. Six runners, two places paid, and a genuine case to be made against the market leader.

Art Lover Each-Way is the selection. Cieren Fallon takes the ride for William Haggas, and that combination immediately catches the eye. Fallon runs at 17% at Leicester with an A/E of 1.03, meaning he is returning fair value at this track. Haggas has been busy at 10/49 in the last 14 days, which is a yard with runners in the ground. Art Lover’s form reads 2187-2, and that most recent second was described as a cracking run. The two indifferent efforts before that return to form are a fair query, but horses coming back to form and then running well again is a more reliable pattern than those who have been consistent at a lower level throughout.

The danger is Evening Blues, and you cannot ignore the comment that his rating of 101 puts him clear of these. He has been winless in his last five but shaped with real promise two runs back. Stephen Hanlon’s yard is 0/2 in the last 14 days, though, and that going form is not conclusive enough to put him on top.

Sea Cookie at 7/2 has back-to-back wins in his recent form and is interesting, but the unplaced effort last time out needs explaining before he can be fully trusted.

Art Lover at 7/4 each-way with two places paid is the call. If Fallon gets a smooth run from stall two and the good to firm suits, this looks a fair price for a horse clearly capable of winning at this level.

Selection: Art Lover Each-Way at 7/4 (Boyle Sports / Betfred) — EW terms: 2 places at 1/4 odds

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksArt Lover — ADS Handicap Stakes (4:44, Leicester)
Odds: 7/4 — Boyle Sports (others: 7/4 Betfred, 7/4 LiveScore Bet)

Cieren Fallon has a positive A/E of 1.03 at Leicester, William Haggas has the yard active and in decent nick, and Art Lover arrives off a strong second last time out that reads like a horse returning to form rather than flukeing a placing. The good to firm ground suits, the six-furlong trip is familiar territory, and at 7/4 in a competitive handicap where the market has not taken a strong view either way, this represents the best value on the card.
