Lingfield (AW) Tips: Thursday 30 April 2026

A mid-week Lingfield card on standard Polytrack, and three races stand out as offering genuine punting interest. The going suits horses with AW form, and that angle runs through all three selections today. James Owen's yard is the one to watch in the opener, while Ed Walker's juveniles have been flying in recent weeks. Here is where the value lies.

5:07 โ€” Newsteam Group Handicap (1m, AW Standard)

Selection: Super Hit at 7/2 with Bet365

James Owen is running at a 10/45 clip over the last 14 days. That is not a barn in cold form, that is a yard sending runners out ready to run. Super Hit catches the eye here because the course and distance angle is already established. He went close over C&D off today's mark just a few weeks back before a below-par Kempton run for the previous handler. The change of trainer to Owen, for the same owner, is the obvious clue that connections want a result. Luke Morris takes the ride, a jockey who knows Lingfield inside out.

The market confirms it at 7/2 with Bet365 and 10/3 available with William Hill and Coral. At that price in a 12-runner handicap, Super Hit is competitive without being cramped for value.

Each-way alternative: Secret Road Each-Way at 8/1 with William Hill. Won this course and distance last month on stable debut in first-time cheekpieces, and the fourth placing three weeks later off a higher mark is not a write-off. Eight years old but clearly in good nick for Laura Mongan. Four places at 1/5 odds makes each-way play sensible at that price.

2:20 โ€” Follow @attheraces On X Restricted Novice Stakes (6f, AW Standard)

Selection: Alpe d'Huez at 5/4 with William Hill

Archie Watson's two-year-olds are already off to a good start this season, and that stat matters enormously in juvenile novice races where fitness and preparation separate the sharp from the backward. Alpe d'Huez is a 58,000 euro yearling with a half-brother who stayed a mile and a half at a useful level, suggesting there is stamina on the dam's side, but the sire's influence over six furlongs on Polytrack is the relevant question and Watson's record with early juveniles on AW gives confidence.

Hollie Doyle rides, and she is one of the best pilots on this surface. The market has made him a solid favourite at around 5/4 to 11/8, which reflects genuine yard confidence rather than speculative money. In a nine-runner novice of this type, short prices are often justified when the form book backs it up.

Each-way option: El Lambo Each-Way at 8/1 with Midnite. A half-brother to three useful sprinters who made a promising debut at Newbury two weeks ago in what looks a stronger race than this. Dropping from Newbury to Lingfield is a step forward in terms of competitiveness. Three places at 1/5 odds and a price of 8/1 makes each-way play worthwhile for anyone wanting cover in a juvenile novice.

4:35 โ€” Free Bets On attheraces.com Fillies' Handicap (1m2f, AW Standard)

Selection: Willow Wood at 10/3 with Bet365

Ed Walker has been in sparkling form, running at 6/24 over the past fortnight. Willow Wood is a well-bred filly who failed to show her hand in three juvenile starts around a mile, but those runs came at two over shorter trips and she now steps up to a mile and two furlongs on a surface that tends to bring out improvement. George Downing claims, which adds a few pounds back in the locker.

The Spotlight notes plenty of scope for improvement in middle-distance handicaps and that is exactly the profile you want at 10/3 in a nine-runner fillies' contest. Walker's yard form amplifies the appeal significantly.

Also consider: Guendolen Each-Way at 12/1 with Bet365 or William Hill. Harry Eustace's mare won emphatic when fresh last April and comes into this off a six-month absence. The key stat is that she won last year's reappearance, and she is back off a workable mark. Three places at 1/5 makes each-way play at 12/1 very attractive for the each-way punter.

Today's NAP

Super Hit โ€” Newsteam Group Handicap (5:07, Lingfield)
Odds: 7/2 โ€” Bet365 (others: 10/3 William Hill, 10/3 Coral)

The trainer switch from Darryll Holland to James Owen for the same owner is a deliberate move, and James Owen's yard is in seriously good nick with a 10/45 strike-rate over the last 14 days. Super Hit went close over this course and distance off today's exact mark not long ago, and the below-par Kempton run that followed looks like a one-off. Luke Morris knows Lingfield as well as anyone riding today. The price is fair for a horse with C&D form at this level, and the yard angle tips the balance firmly in his favour.
