Lingfield (AW), Thursday 4 June 2026: Tips & Analysis
A full eight-race card at Lingfield on the Polytrack tonight, with standard going and light rain in the air. Three of the card’s highlighted races are fillies’ contests, two of them split divisions of the same maiden, and the feature opener has an interesting angle with a well-bred debutante to consider. With the Epsom Derby just two days away, the yard form figures across the AW circuit are worth scrutinising closely. Tom Dascombe and Sir Mark Prescott are always worth noting at Lingfield, and a couple of jockeys with strong course profiles are in the saddle tonight.
6:10 โ EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (1m2f, Lingfield AW)
Selection: Kashooda (6/1, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)
Thirteen runners, no previous form in the book, and the market is the only guide. That said, the market is very much the guide here. Kashooda, trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by Rob Hornby, arrives on debut with a family that screams class. She is a full sister to French winner Khadidja and a half-sister to the Listed-winning Kawida, who posted an RPR of 106. The dam is a half-sister to the Australian Group 1 winner Zaaki. Balding’s yard has been ticking over with seven wins from 58 runners in the last fortnight, a solid enough clip, and Hornby does not take on soft assignments for fun.
At 6/1 in a field where most others either have limited exposed form or have struggled badly in their debuts, Kashooda represents clear class on paper. The 1m2f trip over the Polytrack suits a filly bred to run middle distances, and the going conditions here are unlikely to inconvenience an AW debutante with this kind of background. The Spotlight note says “market may guide on debut” and right now the market is saying something loud. Back her each-way at minimum.
Each-Way Kashooda at 6/1 is the pick. Three places at 1/5 odds gives reasonable each-way insurance in a 13-runner field where the form book is largely blank.
7:40 โ EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes Div I (6f, Lingfield AW)
Selection: Fire Thunder (8/15, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
This is not a race for adventurous punters. Fire Thunder, trained by Marco Botti and ridden by Billy Loughnane, has been runner-up twice in similar company at Wolverhampton and Windsor last month. Her RPR of 82 dwarfs anything else in the field. She is described as a “winner waiting to happen” and there is no obvious reason why she cannot get the job done here in Division I against a field that largely consists of once-raced or debut runners with nowhere near the same level of exposed ability.
At 8/15, she is a short-priced favourite and no each-way case exists. Loughnane has a 15% strike rate at Lingfield on the AW, and the Polytrack at 6f suits a filly who has shown smart early pace in her previous two outings. Botti’s stable has been quiet recently (1 from 16) but that is not unusual for a yard that picks its spots, and this looks a race set up perfectly for Fire Thunder to finally get her head in front.
If you want to combine her in a double, read on.
8:10 โ EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes Div II (6f, Lingfield AW)
Selection: Ron’s Angel (4/5, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)
Ron’s Angel ran at Bath on debut over 5f, went completely friendless in the market, yet travelled strongly throughout and was beaten only by a more experienced rival. The pair finished well clear of the third, and that third has run with credit since. She steps up to 6f on Polytrack now under Rossa Ryan, who carries an outstanding partnership record with trainer John Butler at this venue, reportedly winning 9 of their last 25 together. Ryan himself is one of the sharpest operators on the AW circuit and has an 18% course win rate at Lingfield.
The Spotlight commentary makes it clear Ron’s Angel should handle the switch to the AW and the extra furlong looks a natural progression for a filly who was still finding her stride at Bath. Her RPR of 86 on debut is unusually high for a beaten horse in a maiden, which tells you exactly what kind of ceiling she may have. Sir Mark Prescott’s Forest Berry at 11/4 is the main danger, showing dash at Chepstow last time, but Ron’s Angel’s raw ability looks superior.
At 4/5, this is a short price but it is justified. Include her in the double with Fire Thunder if you want a reasonable payout from two competitive favourites.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 4/5 โ Boyle Sports (others: 4/5 Betfred, 4/5 LiveScore Bet)
A filly who was friendless on debut yet ran a performance that stamps her well above this grade. The switch to Polytrack and the step up to 6f are both moves in her favour, Rossa Ryan is a 18% course specialist who knows this venue inside out, and an RPR of 86 on debut from a Bath maiden is a serious number. The market has woken up, and rightly so. This is a horse who should have won on debut and has every chance to put that right tonight.
