The Gosden operation runs at 27% here at Lingfield AW, one of the stronger trainer strike rates on the card, and Robert Havlin is a reliable pilot who knows this surface well. Dove Tale’s form reads 9-3, which tells you she improved significantly second time out, finishing third in what may well have been a more competitive environment than this. A mile and two furlongs on Standard going is a perfectly sensible ask for a filly stepping up slightly in trip, and the Gosden yard tends to have their juveniles and three-year-olds spot on for an AW novice once they’ve had a run or two to learn their trade.

Shangri La (2/1, LiveScore Bet best) from the David Simcock yard is the danger, with four career starts giving her a level of experience that counts for something. But the form figure of 5 last time out after a winter break gives pause, and Simcock’s recent 14-day figures show no winners from seven attempts. Neswick at 7/2 is interesting on a debut third, with Marcus Tregoning clocking a strong A/E of 0.96 here and David Probert aboard, but single-run form is always a gamble.

Twelve runners, seven furlongs on the Polytrack, and the favourite at 11/8 is Aljoon, whose form of 02 shows a second place last time but also a zero before that. He may well win, but 11/8 in a maiden of this size is short enough to look elsewhere for value.

Brushstroke catches the eye at 12/1. T J Kent runs at a 23% strike rate at Lingfield AW and carries an A/E of 1.47, which is the standout trainer statistic on the entire card. That A/E tells you his runners here are well above expectation, meaning Kent does not bring horses to this track without having them ready. Jack Callan takes the ride, and he runs at 20% here with an A/E of 1.42. Two of the sharpest positive angles on the card combine in one runner at double-figure odds. That is the kind of overlay you’re looking for in a wide-open 12-runner juvenile maiden.

Huwa Baree at 3/1 (Charlie Johnston, Callum Shepherd) and Mr Badger at 11/2 (Marcus Tregoning, Daniel Muscutt) are legitimate threats, but at 12/1 each-way with three places paid at 1/5 odds, Brushstroke represents genuine value. Back him each-way at 12/1.

The form reading of 244312 for a three-year-old handicapper tells its own story: consistent, progressive, placed repeatedly, and with a win in the recent sequence. The comment data confirms he arrived off the back of that win two starts ago and was runner-up last time, so there is no question about fitness or momentum. He has handled today’s trip and going before, and at the top of the official ratings in this field, he sets the standard.

S Woods runs at 18% here with a positive A/E of 1.12, which is a solid enough yard stat, and Robert Havlin is a professional pilot who gets the job done on the Polytrack without fuss. The weight of 135lbs is manageable, and the 6/1 on offer reflects a slight market reluctance toward a three-year-old in what is a mixed-age handicap, which is arguably where the value sits.

Kaaranah at 11/2 (John Butler, in cracking recent form with five winners from 18 in 14 days) is the obvious danger with back-to-back wins. But 142lbs is a proper burden on the Polytrack over a mile and two furlongs, and the question is whether the handicapper has caught up with him. Barry’s Boy at 9/2 shaped well last time and deserves respect. Eagles Attire at 5/2 is the market’s pick but has been off 101 days and has a flat recent profile, so that price feels optimistic.

Booziebrunch at 6/1 is the value call: in form, right trip, right surface, and priced to win.
