Lingfield (AW) Tips: Monday 17 August 2026
A quiet Monday card at Lingfield on the all-weather before the big guns head to York for the Ebor Festival tomorrow. Standard going on the Polytrack suits front-runners and horses who handle the surface well, and with several Crisford and Balding runners on show, trainer form is going to be a key filter today. Six races, three worth dissecting in detail. Here are the angles.
2:30 โ Free Bets On attheraces.com Nursery Handicap Stakes (1m, AW)
Five runners after the Crazy Cubana non-runner, and this shapes up as a genuine puzzle. Magical Life won last time out but her figures simply do not inspire confidence at the weights, and a seven-day turnaround in a nursery handicap rarely flatters a two-year-old still learning the game.
Selection: Parading (5/2, LiveScore Bet)
Parading is the top-rated runner in this field and his consistency over recent starts is the standout feature of this race. A second last time out, a third two runs back, experience of both today’s trip and the Polytrack going, and drawn in stall two where prominent racers can get across and dictate early. Richard Hughes sends out 3 from 27 in the last fortnight, which is solid rather than spectacular, but the horse himself is knocking on the door and this looks a fair opportunity. Pat Dobbs takes the ride. The price of 9/4 with LiveScore or 5/2 elsewhere represents fair value for the top-rated horse in a small field.
3:00 โ Singapore Pools Trophy Restricted Maiden Stakes (1m, AW)
Ten runners, but several of these are no-hopers at three-figure prices. The market is led by Justice Court at 11/8 and Itica at 15/8, with Rapide Vega at 9/4 the each-way option worth considering at that price in a ten-runner field.
Selection: Justice Court (11/8, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Form of 3-2 reads well for a horse running in a restricted maiden. Two starts, placed both times, and the 3 on debut followed by a runner-up next time suggests a progressive type who is getting closer to winning with each run. Jamie Osborne sends out 2 from 11 in the last fortnight, modest numbers but the horse’s form speaks for itself. Saffie Osborne takes the ride, and this looks a fair chance at odds just above evens.
Each-way alternative: Rapide Vega Each-Way (9/4, all bookmakers)
Adrian Keatley runs at a healthy 18% strike rate at Lingfield on the all-weather with an A/E of 1.16, meaning punters have made money backing his runners here blind. Rapide Vega has a longer form string and more experience than most in this field. With 10 runners and three places on offer at 1/5 odds, there is a case for playing each-way at 9/4. The yard fires here and the price is fair.
4:00 โ Free Race Replays On attheraces.com Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (6f, AW)
Only five runners but the race has genuine depth, and the trainer angle here is almost impossible to ignore.
Selection: Egotistical (9/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)
Rated 80 to head this field, Egotistical posted a genuine win three starts back and her form figures of -23174 show a horse who is not just making up the numbers. Roger Varian runs at 22% at Lingfield AW from over 400 runners, a solid course record, and the yard is firing at 27% in the last fortnight with 6 winners from 22 runners. Ross Coakley takes the ride and she returns after a 52-day break, which for a filly of her rating in this grade is entirely manageable. She drops back to six furlongs, has experience of today’s going, and as the highest-rated runner in a five-horse field she has every right to dominate.
Veil Of Clouds at 11/10 is the market leader and the Crisford form over the last fortnight is exceptional at 41%, but the current odds leave no room for error. Egotistical at 9/4 is simply better value for a horse with a higher rating and a trainer who knows this track.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 9/4 โ Boyle Sports (others: 9/4 Betfred, 9/4 LiveScore Bet)
Top-rated on official figures in a five-runner fillies’ handicap, Egotistical won convincingly three starts back and Varian’s yard is in excellent form with six winners from 22 runners in the last fortnight. The trainer hits 22% at Lingfield AW over a large sample with consistent profit, and at 9/4 versus an odds-on favourite who remains winless in recent starts, this represents clear value. Standard going on the Polytrack suits, and being back down in trip to six furlongs after a break often brings out the best in well-handicapped fillies.
