Lingfield (AW) Tips: Sunday 6th July 2026

A nine-race card at Lingfield on a standard Polytrack surface, with the afternoon dominated by juvenile novice action and a pair of competitive five-furlong handicaps. Three races are spotlighted here. The Crisford yard continues to fire at nearly 30% on this course, Fanshawe’s string is in form with five winners from 22 runners in the past fortnight, and Rossa Ryan and Harry Davies are two jockeys who consistently outperform at this venue.

2:45 โ€” Sky Sports Racing Novice Stakes (Div 1) โ€” 7f

Selection: Cavalier (4/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred)

Forget the bare form reading of a sixth-place debut at Newbury. Cavalier was beaten only three lengths in what is a strong novice track, was short of early pace on that occasion, and the step up to seven furlongs here is the critical factor. He tops the figures for this division, Richard Hannon has six winners from 44 runners in the past fortnight, and Sean Levey is a jockey who knows exactly how to ride this Polytrack layout. The market has him joint-favourite for good reason.

The danger is the short-priced market leader Perfect Nation (4/6), who was runner-up on debut at Windsor and steps up to seven furlongs for the first time. George Boughey has a solid 16% strike rate at Lingfield, and this colt showed real promise despite pulling keenly. If the trip settles him, he is hard to dismiss. Drum Bay on debut for Ralph Beckett with Rossa Ryan up is worth a small interest at 4/1, given the pedigree strongly points to seven furlongs and beyond.

3:15 โ€” Sky Sports Racing Novice Stakes (Div 2) โ€” 7f

Selection: Romanza (9/4, all books)

This is the standout bet of the two novice divisions. Romanza steps back into a novice contest after competing in Listed company at Ascot last time, where he was beaten four and a half lengths. That is a penalty in terms of class, not a stain on his reputation. He tops the ratings for this field, the seven-furlong trip suits him ideally, and his pedigree points firmly toward middle-distances so he is still on an upward curve. This is a significant drop in grade and he should have too much for these rivals.

Sea Idol for Sir Mark Prescott is interesting at 11/2, placed narrowly on his all-weather debut at Southwell and clearly handles the surface. Prescott horses regularly improve sharply between runs. Cloud Summit’s step up to seven furlongs makes appeal at 11/2, with that debut fourth at Newbury coming despite a slow start. Apulia Bay at 13/2 is a 600,000gns colt from the Crisford yard, where the 28% course strike rate commands respect, though we have no public form to assess. Watch the market before the off.

4:15 โ€” Sky Sports Racing Handicap (Div 1) โ€” 5f

Selection: Havana Blast (7/2, LiveScore Bet)

James Fanshawe has five winners from 22 runners in the past fortnight and carries a 16% course strike rate at Lingfield. Havana Blast tops the figures here, has proven ability at five furlongs on both good ground and the all-weather, and today sees the addition of a first-time tongue-tie from a yard that is clearly in form. He faded late at Yarmouth last time, which keeps his handicap mark honest, but a sharper surface and this equipment change could sharpen him up significantly. The 7/2 on offer at LiveScore Bet is the best available and worth taking.

Law Of Average (6/1) is the main threat. Two wins in quick succession before a third at Yarmouth off a higher mark shows he is a horse on the up, and he loves to set the pace over five furlongs. The concern is whether the handicapper has caught him. Michaels Boy (4/1) won at Yarmouth last time and handles this trip well, though a 4lb rise brings him back to a tighter margin.

Nogo’s Dream with Oisin Murphy aboard at 7/2 is worth noting, with first-time cheekpieces fitted and placed form in six of his recent starts, but the trainer is in a quiet spell and he has not crossed the line first in a while.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksRomanza โ€” Sky Sports Racing Novice Stakes Div 2 (3:15, Lingfield AW)
Odds: 9/4 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 9/4 Betfred, 9/4 LiveScore Bet)

Romanza is dropping from Listed company into a novice contest and brings a ratings advantage over everything else in this field. His Ascot run was a serious piece of form, seven furlongs is his optimum trip, and pedigree suggests he has more improvement to offer. This price should be shorter given the class he is bringing to this race.
