Lingfield, 18 May 2026: Tips and Selections
A six-race card at Lingfield on good ground, and there are three races worth sinking your teeth into. The going suits horses that can travel through their race without burning up energy early, and the 7f and 1m2f trips in particular reward runners with a bit of class over raw speed. Here are the selections.
2:20 Sporting Times Handicap (1m2f, Good)
Selection: King’s Hand (5/2, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
David Egan takes the ride and that matters in a race like this. King’s Hand has been building steadily through his form figures, that sequence of -73124 reading better than it looks at first glance. He found a mile and a quarter at Lingfield last time, finishing second, and the handicapper has not moved dramatically against him since. Joseph Parr’s yard is quiet at 0/3 in the past fortnight but that is a tiny sample, and Egan tends to pick rides with a genuine chance rather than dead certs on paper.
Dancing Tiger at 4/1 is the obvious danger. Roger Teal’s gelding has 134 and 16 in recent form, showing he can win and run well at this level. But the yard is 0/15 in the last 14 days, which is a significant flag. When a trainer goes that cold, you want clear evidence a horse is carrying them before backing the price.
Oman Each-Way at 8/1 (Boyle Sports) also deserves a small each-way interest. Tony Carroll has been in fine form at 6/42 over the fortnight, which for a handler of that volume is genuinely productive. The eight-year-old has hit the frame multiple times this year and loves getting his toe in. With three places on offer at 1/5 odds, he is solid each-way value at the price.
3:20 Sporting Times EBF Maiden Stakes (7f, Good)
Selection: Notable Dream (9/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Ryan Moore and the 11/8 favourite Encounter will attract the money, and Moore does not ride bad horses. But Notable Dream is the value angle here. The Spotlight tells the story clearly: he had only just turned two at his Doncaster debut this month and shaped well in a messy affair, held up and not getting the clearest of runs. The step up from six to seven furlongs suits him on both that evidence and his pedigree.
Marco Botti is operating at 3/11 in the past 14 days, which is a solid strike rate for a string of that size, and Marco Ghiani partners him. The RPR of 72 from a debut run where he was not even asked a serious question is encouraging. At 9/4, he offers better value than the favourite given the ground is right and the trip upgrade is in his favour. Encounter has the classier name in the saddle but nothing on the clock to justify dismissing Notable Dream at these odds.
3:50 Sporting Times Novice Stakes (6f, Good)
Selection: Behike (8/11, Betfred)
Not every selection needs to be at 10/1. Behike is the standout on form here, with an RPR of 99 in a race where the next best is 94, and a form line of 3-1 that includes a recent win. George Scott has been in excellent nick at 5/19 over the past fortnight, which is a genuinely strong 14-day stat for a quality handler, and David Egan is booked.
Ray Mon Dough at 7/2 won on debut but his last run was a flat sixth, and Oliver Cole’s yard has not fired a single winner from seven runners in the past 14 days. Railwayman is honest but this looks a step up in class. Behike is the most straightforward call on the card. Take the price before it firms further.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 9/4 โ Boyle Sports (others: 9/4 Betfred, 2/1 LiveScore Bet)
A colt who was barely two years old on debut and still shaped with plenty of promise at Doncaster, finishing third in a race that was run in chaos. The step up to seven furlongs is exactly what his pedigree and running style demand, the ground is good which suits, and Marco Botti’s yard is currently in form. Ryan Moore on the favourite is never a comfortable proposition to oppose, but at 9/4 compared to 11/8, Notable Dream offers the value angle and has the profile of a horse about to improve significantly on race one.
