Lingfield, 26 May 2026: Tuesday Tips

A sun-baked Tuesday at Lingfield with good ground across the card. Six races, three featured, and one selection stands out from the pack. With the Premier League Darts Final landing at the O2 on Thursday, sports punters will have plenty to keep them busy this week, but today’s Flat card deserves proper attention. Good ground suits horses with a clean action, and that context shapes every pick below.

5:54 โ€” Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap (1m6f)

Selection: Russian Rumour at 6/4 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) | 11/8 LiveScore Bet

The form case here is as clean as it gets in a five-runner handicap. Russian Rumour is a course winner at Lingfield, has won on good ground, and arrives off the back of a Nottingham victory just 17 days ago under the same jockey, Donagh Murphy. The handicapper has only moved her up 2lb for that success. She is attempting a hat-trick, but the weight rise is negligible and the trainer, Jonathan Portman, is running at a solid 3/15 clip over the last fortnight.

Synergism is the obvious danger. Sir Mark Prescott’s yard hits 22% at this track overall and this four-year-old won four times last season, including over this exact trip at Sandown on good ground. The concern is a seven-month absence and a current mark that is 9lb above his last winning handicap rating. Horses carrying that kind of weight penalty after a long layoff need everything to fall right, even for a trainer as precise as Prescott. Across Earth brings Ryan Moore in from the cold and has the profile of a horse who can go well fresh, but Gary and Josh Moore are winless from 23 starts over the past fortnight. That stat matters. Russian Rumour holds the form advantage and the class to see this off.

6:24 โ€” Weatherbys Racing Bank Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (1m2f)

Selection: Green Area at 4/1 (Boyle Sports) | 7/2 Betfred | 7/2 LiveScore Bet

An unraced filly attracting market support in a maiden is always worth examining, and the pedigree here demands respect. Green Area is a half-sister to Subjectivist, who won the Group 1 Gold Cup, and Sir Ron Priestley, a Group 2 performer at a mile and a half to a mile and six. Speed and stamina run deep through the family. The 110,000gns price tag reflects that, and Charlie Johnston’s yard has shown a 17% strike rate at Lingfield with Tom Marquand in the saddle.

Sunshine Star is the market leader at 8/11 and has an obvious claim. She won on debut at Kempton before flopping at Sandown on reappearance, beaten by a winner who franked the form by going close in the Musidora. Robert Havlin takes the ride for Gosden, and the Sandown run can arguably be excused. She is the one to beat. Asset, trained by Sir Mark Prescott, showed promise on her debut at Kempton and the step up to a mile and two should help her. But at 7/2 with limited exposed form, Green Area at the same price offers fresher upside. If the market has done its homework on this filly’s home work, the 4/1 available at Boyle Sports will not last long.

7:24 โ€” Greenaway Foundation Novice Stakes (7ยฝf)

Selection: Weffaag at 5/6 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) | Tom Marquand

William Haggas hits 22% at Lingfield, the best trainer strike rate on the whole course, and Weffaag arrives as the most expensive horse in this race by some distance at 420,000 guineas as a yearling. That price tag does not guarantee anything, but Haggas does not run horses like this in novice stakes unless they are ready to win. The Thirsk run last month tells a decent story: third of 14 at odds-on over seven furlongs, shaping as though the step up in trip would help. This is the step up in trip. A tongue-tie is applied for the first time, which is a significant trainer move.

Storming Point is the main rival and Ryan Moore does not take low-profile rides without reason. The Newbury debut, beaten a short head over soft ground, was excellent. Today’s good ground is different to that surface, which is a small concern. Ascending Star makes his stable debut for Owen Burrows and showed enough in two starts last summer to be respected at 9/2. But Haggas at his home track, Marquand in the saddle, and a horse bred to get better as the trip extends. This looks like a race set up for Weffaag to deliver.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksRussian Rumour โ€” Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap (5:54, Lingfield)
Odds: 6/4 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 6/4 Betfred, 11/8 LiveScore Bet)

A course winner going for a hat-trick on her ideal surface, with a jockey who has already won on her this season and a trainer firing at 3 from 15 over the last fortnight. The 2lb rise for her Nottingham win is the lightest possible penalty, and in a small field of five, there is nowhere to hide for rivals who lack her form freshness. Russian Rumour is the nap of the day, no argument.
