Lingfield Park, Saturday 6 June 2026 – Tips & Analysis

Rain has done its work at Lingfield and the ground is riding soft, which immediately narrows the field in each race. Horses with questions over their ability to handle testing conditions should be marked down, regardless of their bare form figures. It is a seven-race card, but three races stand out for punting purposes. George Scott’s yard continues to fire at this track (31% strike rate, A/E 1.11) and his representative in the opener deserves close attention. Pat Cosgrave is the standout jockey angle (18% course wins, 45 from 251), riding in both the 1m2f maiden and the 7.5f maiden.

8:10 — Eikon Helping Young People In Surrey Handicap (6f, Soft)

Selection: Charlie Mason at 7/2 (Boyle Sports, Betfred)

The form figures off his current handicap mark read 2-2-2, which tells you exactly what sort of horse this is: consistent, competitive, and overdue a win. Tony Carroll’s yard has been busy (7 from 44 in the last 14 days) and the 7lb claim from Myla Coppins is a legitimate weapon in a race like this. Charlie Mason handles different surfaces and the soft ground is not a bar. At 7/2 he represents the best value in a race where the market leader Pixie Diva has yet to win on turf in five attempts.

Pixie Diva (13/8) deserves respect after that placed effort at Thirsk, but George Scott’s filly is 0-5 on turf and this soft Lingfield surface is a step into the unknown. Queue Dos (9/2) has four AW wins to her name but is 0-12 on turf, and that record on grass in the wet simply cannot be forgiven.

Raffles Angel Each-Way at 8/1 is an interesting outsider. The 1-1 course and distance record is a strong angle, and the Spotlight notes an excusable last effort (hampered, poorly positioned). The concern is that she has never raced on ground softer than good, and today’s conditions represent a real unknown. Worth a small each-way interest given that C&D stat, but not a confident win selection.

Best bet: Charlie Mason, 7/2

6:35 — Free Bets On attheraces.com Restricted Maiden Stakes (1m2f, Soft)

Selection: Cold Fish at 9/4 (Boyle Sports, Betfred)

This is the standout selection of the card. Cold Fish has placed on both starts, first at Chelmsford over 1m2f on the AW and then at Goodwood over a mile on good ground last month. The Spotlight makes the key observation: he shaped last time as though the return to this trip would suit. He gets it today. Benoit De La Sayette takes the ride and the soft ground at 1m2f should play to his strengths as a horse who stays and stays.

Relentless Hero (10/3) is the main danger. Andrew Balding’s gelding has shown ability on all three starts and front-ran before finishing fourth of 12 at Leicester over this exact trip, beaten under three lengths. Balding runs two horses here (Parc Dosne is the other at 6/1) which dilutes confidence slightly, but Relentless Hero is unexposed and the step down in class appeals. The caveat is that he has not raced on ground softer than good to firm, so today is a test.

Probation (13/2, Kevin Philippart De Foy) has shown promise in both starts and the trainer’s Lingfield record is strong (21% wins, A/E 1.24). Pat Cosgrave rides, another positive tick. But Cold Fish has simply shown more, and the trip switch back to 1m2f makes him the one to beat.

Best bet: Cold Fish, 9/4

7:40 — Free Tips On attheraces.com Restricted Maiden Stakes (7.5f, Soft, 13 runners)

Selection: Drymee Each-Way at 9/2 (Boyle Sports, LiveScore Bet)

A thin race on paper, but James Fanshawe’s Drymee carries some substance beneath an unremarkable recent effort. That debut at Leicester in September, when Drymee was returned at 150/1 and finished a promising fourth of a decent field on good ground, was a performance way above market expectation. The subsequent run at Kempton on the AW was disappointing, but that was the gelding’s first start for the new yard and those transitional runs often flatter to deceive. Fanshawe is 3 from 11 in the last 14 days at this track and knows his horses. With 13 runners over 7.5f on soft ground, each-way at 9/2 (3 places, 1/5 odds) makes plenty of sense.

Turton (James Tate, 25/1) is held on both starts and the trainer’s Lingfield record (24% wins) cannot rescue a horse this firmly in the rear of the form book. Don Pablo Colina (10/1, George Baker) showed promise on AW but Baker’s 14-day record of 0 from 14 is a significant deterrent. Nothing at these prices convinces as a win-only play in a maiden this weak.

Drymee each-way at 9/2 is the considered angle, with the expectation that Fanshawe has had time to iron out whatever went wrong at Kempton and that the softer turf at a longer trip than that debut brings out better.

Best bet: Drymee each-way, 9/2

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksCold Fish — Free Bets On attheraces.com Restricted Maiden Stakes (6:35, Lingfield)
Odds: 9/4 — Boyle Sports (others: 9/4 Betfred, 9/4 LiveScore Bet)

Two placed efforts have built a tidy profile: AW experience at 1m2f on debut, then a promising third at Goodwood over a mile last month where the Spotlight specifically flagged the return to today’s trip as the key upgrade. Soft ground at Lingfield over 1m2f suits a stayer, and at 9/4 in a field where the main dangers are either unraced or untested on soft, this is a standout confidence play on the card.
