Listowel, Sunday 1 June 2026: Tips and Analysis
Listowel on yielding ground with light rain in the air. Three races featured here, all on the flat, and a card that rewards patience. The going suits horses with a bit of class rather than those relying on raw pace. P Twomey is the standout course trainer with a 33% strike rate and a positive A/E, so anything from that yard demands attention. Jack Cleary gets a mention too, 17% here with an A/E of 1.26, punching above his weight on the Kerry circuit.
With the Epsom Derby just six days away, the serious juvenile form on show today is worth filing. You never know which of these two-year-olds grows up to be something.
2:14 โ Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden (6ยฝf, Yielding)
Selection: Glenade (13/8, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Twomey at 33% at this track. That alone gets your attention. Glenade, a Kodi Bear colt, set a fierce pace on his debut at Roscommon over 7.5f on ground not unlike today, and still finished third. That’s physically and mentally demanding for a first run and the fact he held it together that well tells you plenty. Drop to 6.5f today should suit, and with a professional pace-setter’s debut behind him he is expected to settle far more readily. W J Lee takes the ride for a yard that knows how to win here. He is a short price, but Twomey’s A/E of 1.14 at this course says he sends them fit and ready. Take the 13/8 and be confident.
Each-way interest: The Scallionator at 10/3 has real claims if Glenade blows up early. A 7-length beating of the remainder at Navan over 6f on good ground, staying on through the line, is decent form for this level. Wesley Joyce rides, the trip fits, and the yield in the ground suits a horse that kept finding. Worth a saver.
2:44 โ Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden (6ยฝf, Yielding)
Selection: Big Negotiator (15/8, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Twomey again. The Havana Grey filly was market-fancied on debut at Navan over 5f on yielding and was simply outpaced late in a trip too sharp for her. She is bred for six furlongs and beyond, she has the benefit of a racecourse experience that many in here lack, and she steps up to 6.5f today. The Spotlight notes improvement likely with the extra distance, and that is the obvious read. Havana Grey’s fillies often improve markedly with that first run in the bank. 15/8 is not enormous but Twomey’s horses win here. She is the call.
The danger is Madam Secretary (9/4, Boyle Sports) for Aidan O’Brien, a Wootton Bassett filly out of a mare related to Garswood, a Group 1 winner at 6.5f. The pedigree screams this trip, Jack Cleary has a strong A/E at Listowel, and debutantes from that yard with serious breeding profiles often come here to get the job done. If she drifts in the market, take note. If she firms, she could go off favourite and short-circuit the race.
Citrus Springs at 10/3 cost 300,000 dollars at the breeze-ups and the pedigree is interesting, but the Joseph O’Brien yard has sent out just 7 winners from 61 in the last 14 days. That is not the form of a yard firing on all cylinders right now. She may improve sharply, but against an experienced filly who suits the conditions, Big Negotiator is preferred.
3:50 โ Coco At The Arcade Race (1m, Yielding)
Selection: Satoyama (5/2, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Joseph O’Brien’s strike rate here hasn’t been flying recently, but this is a case where the horse’s form does the talking regardless. Satoyama beat a subsequent winner at Gowran over a mile on good to yielding, doing so prominently and with authority. The going today is very similar to what he handled there. He is unraced at two, which means his lungs are fresh. The step forward from that debut form should be considerable.
Straight Up (15/8) was keen on his first run back this season, then found nothing in the hood at Leopardstown. His profile is unconvincing given the quirks emerging. Thread Of Gold (7/2) won at the Curragh but flopped in a Group 3 and needs market confidence to trust. Listentodwindblow at 6/1 has the highest official rating in the field but his profile, as the Spotlight says, is unconvincing. He was beaten as a favourite last time in March before being gelded.
Satoyama is the value play. A horse that won readily on similar ground, at a mile, that suits. Take 5/2 and move on.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 13/8 โ Boyle Sports (others: 13/8 Betfred, 6/4 LiveScore Bet)
P Twomey sends horses to Listowel ready to run, and a 33% course win rate with a positive A/E is the best trainer angle on the card today. Glenade set a strong pace on debut at Roscommon and still finished third over a longer trip. Drop to 6.5f on yielding ground, with a professional first run now behind him, and W J Lee in the saddle for a yard that knows this track inside out. He is short for a maiden, but with Twomey’s course record backing him up, 13/8 is fair value for a horse with obvious improvement to come.
