Ludlow, Sunday 10 May: Tips and Selections

A quiet Sunday card at Ludlow, but three races worth your attention and one selection that stands out clearly from the rest. Good ground throughout suits horses with a bit of zip about them, and the Skelton yard is firing on all cylinders right now with 8 winners from 26 runners over the past fortnight. That matters when you’re trying to identify horses that are going to run to their best.

2:17 Radnor Hills Water Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle

Selection: Enya (6/5 Boyle Sports)

Hear me out before you dismiss the favourite. First Candidate is a non-runner, which immediately transforms this race. With her scratched, Enya at 6/5 with Jamie Snowden and Gavin Sheehan is a completely different proposition. She chased home what turned out to be a smart horse at Warwick in November and has run respectably in bumpers on good ground since, which actually tells you she handles these conditions well. The tongue-tie goes on for this return to hurdling, suggesting connections have identified something to sharpen her up, and she’s 3lb ahead of her rivals on a pound-for-pound RPR comparison in this field.

Silvereen kept on nicely when third over this course and distance in March and is the logical danger, with Henry Daly’s yard in decent recent form. But 5/4 about a horse whose form reads 4773 is not where the value sits. Enya at 6/5 represents the sharper angle here.

3:27 Radnor Hills Splash Handicap Chase

Selection: Redbridge Rambler Each-Way (5/2 Betfred)

Law Of Supply is another non-runner, which opens this up nicely. Redbridge Rambler is the one to be on at 5/2 with Betfred. The form reads well once you strip it back. His two runs behind subsequent winners at Hereford and Catterick on good ground in late 2025 showed he belongs at this level, and the Wincanton run that followed can be completely ignored. A mile and seven furlongs on a flat track was never going to suit a stayer, the headgear was removed, and he still got dropped 2lb out of it. Now he gets the cheekpieces back, a proper three-mile trip, and good ground that he has already proven he handles. Martin Keighley’s yard has a winner from seven runners in the past fortnight.

Zacony Rebel is fascinating at 4/1 having won over course and distance at 33/1 last time, but eleven-year-olds who spring 33/1 surprises are not guaranteed to repeat the trick. Hall Lane has been placed twice for Fergal O’Brien recently and deserves respect, but O’Brien’s strike rate of 1 from 18 over the past two weeks is a yellow flag you cannot ignore.

4:37 GC Rickards Mares’ Handicap Chase

Selection: Regal Renaissance (13/8 Boyle Sports)

Five runners, good ground, and a mare who has already won off this exact mark. Regal Renaissance finished a neck second at Stratford last time out, clear of the remainder, and that was her best run of the season. Sam Twiston-Davies rides and the key detail in the form book is that she won a chase off this current mark back in November 2024. She has not been raised for finishing second last time. She is a proven winner at this level, in this ground, and on a track that suits patient, staying mares.

Claim Du Brisais at the same price is the one to beat. Harry Skelton and Dan Skelton are the combo to fear given their yard’s current form, and she is unexposed over 2m4f. A jumping mistake cost her last time but she was fine at Warwick the run before. This looks a straight match between the two at 13/8 apiece, and Regal Renaissance’s proven winning form off this exact mark tips the scales her way.

Today’s NAP

Regal Renaissance โ€” GC Rickards Mares’ Handicap Chase (4:37 Ludlow)
Odds: 13/8 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 13/8 Betfred, 6/4 LiveScore Bet)

A mare who has already won off this precise handicap mark, back in form having posted a career-best seasonal effort at Stratford last time, and back on good ground that suits. Small field, known quantity, proven course-and-distance performer. The logic is clean and the price is fair for what is effectively a horse running back at a mark she has already beaten.
