Market Rasen, Sunday 5 July 2026: Tips & Best Bets

A seven-race card at Market Rasen on good ground under cloudy skies. July jumping at its most honest: tight fields, exposed form, and plenty of trainer angles to unpick. Three races stand out for punters looking for genuine value, so let’s get into it.

2:20 โ€” Malton Marquees Maiden Hurdle (2m4ยฝf)

Selection: Way Maker โ€” 6/5 Boyle Sports / LiveScore Bet

Mickey Bowen sends out this dual bumper winner who heads the figures, and the booking of James Bowen tells you connections are serious. James Bowen goes at 20% winners at Market Rasen with an A/E of 1.19, and Mickey Bowen himself sits at 25% here with a course A/E of 1.04. This is a yard that knows this track.

Way Maker has won twice in bumpers and handles a sound surface over this trip. The unseating last time is easily forgiven given the application of first-time cheekpieces today suggests connections have a clear plan to sharpen him up. In a maiden hurdle of only seven runners, this is about raw quality, and he has more of it than anything else in the field.

Rogue Impact at 2/1 is a credible threat. James Owen sits at 26% winners at Market Rasen and has been firing in recent weeks, and the Worcester run where he shaped well before getting too competitive early is the right kind of experience. First-time cheekpieces here too. If Way Maker disappoints, Rogue Impact collects.

2:50 โ€” ECIS Say Yes To Solar Handicap Hurdle (2mยฝf)

Selection: Granny Hawkins โ€” 11/4 Boyle Sports / Betfred

Three wins from her last five starts. The most recent of those was a two-and-a-half-length handicap win at Stratford despite trouble in running, which means the form is arguably better than it looks on paper. She handles this trip and today’s good ground well, and Alan King’s yard has been active enough to suggest she arrives ready.

The short break since that Stratford win is the only question, but there is nothing in this field that looks capable of exploiting it. Fidendum is interesting on handicap debut and the McPherson/Killahena partnership has a strong Market Rasen record, but doing too much too early in his last run at Worcester is a concern on this track. Crown Of India gets a mention at 9/2 after his form upturn, but he is described as inconsistent overall and I would rather take the 11/4 about a horse who has genuinely been knocking them over.

Granny Hawkins is the likeliest winner on this card. Back her to win.

4:00 โ€” Sun Racing Summer Jumps Championship Handicap Chase (2m5ยฝf)

Selection: Fringill Dike Each-Way โ€” 13/8 Boyle Sports / Betfred

The headline race on the card, and Regal Renaissance is the obvious one everyone will pile into at 5/4. Back-to-back wins and progressive form make her compelling on paper. But the handicapper has now raised her 3lb above the mark from which she won by nine lengths, and at odds-on she leaves you nowhere to go if something goes wrong.

Fringill Dike at 13/8 is the smarter play. He dominated a handicap at this course last time by nine lengths, down 7lb in the weights and dropped in class. First-time blinkers are an unknown, but connections have clearly made a deliberate move here and Sean Quinlan knows what he is riding. He is well treated on his better form, handles this trip on decent ground, and the price represents genuine each-way value in a four-runner race.

Authorised Speed tops the figures but comes with a two-year layoff and conditions not entirely ideal for him. He is a watch rather than a bet at 4/1. Gateau De Miel ran well two starts back but regressed sharply in higher grade since. Stick with the Market Rasen specialist.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksGranny Hawkins โ€” ECIS Say Yes To Solar Handicap Hurdle (2:50, Market Rasen)
Odds: 11/4 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 11/4 Betfred, 11/4 LiveScore Bet)

Three wins from five starts, a performance last time that was better than the bare result suggests, and she handles today’s trip and going without any doubt. The field around her is beatable, Alan King’s yard has been ticking over, and 11/4 about a proven course-type handicapper in this company is the value on the card. The form is solid, the conditions suit, and the price is fair for what is effectively the standout on the day.
