He is fit, he is proven at this trip on this surface in this specific race, and Balding’s yard is firing at 27% course strike rate with a top A/E figure.

Rob Hornby, who partners him, posts a 21% Newcastle AW win rate. In a 20-runner handicap with five places paid, a course winner at 12/1 is not something to dismiss lightly. The extra weight is the risk, which is exactly why this is flagged each-way rather than a straight win bet.
