Newmarket (July) Tips: Friday 19 June 2026
A Friday evening card at Newmarket’s July Course, eight races on good ground under mostly cloudy skies. The straight mile and the seven-furlong trips suit horses that travel well and finish strongly, and good ground here is genuine racing surface. Three races stand out for punting purposes. Dougie Costello posts an 18% strike rate at this track with an A/E of 1.38, and George Baker’s yard runs at 24% here with an A/E of 1.74. Both numbers are worth flagging when their names appear on the racecard.
7:45 โ Zyn Frontrunner Finish Handicap (1m, 16 runners)
Selection: Exposure Each-Way at 15/2 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Sixteen runners over a mile on a Friday evening at the July Course means the handicapper has done his job of compressing the field. In a race like this, the Gosden-trained horses at Newmarket tend to find their level eventually, and Exposure has a form line that shows a 1, a 2, and a 4 in recent starts before the dash that suggests a break. John and Thady Gosden tick over at 18% here at the July Course across a large sample, and Benoit De La Sayette gets the leg up. De La Sayette himself posts a 17% course win rate with an A/E of 1.06, meaning he’s riding at full value on this track.
The 140lb weight is workable in this field and the price of 15/2 is fair for a Gosden yard horse returning on good ground. Four places at 1/5 odds makes the each-way play sensible in a 16-runner field. Take the 15/2 with Boyle Sports or Betfred before the market trims it.
Spanish Voice at 8/1 is the main danger. Andrew Balding has been running hot over the last fortnight at 12/65, and a form line showing a 1 and a 7 followed by a 1 and a 0 at the end hints at inconsistency, but the price deserves respect.
5:55 โ Zyn Pole Position Handicap Division I (7f, 10 runners)
Selection: Miletus at 4/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred, 7/2 LiveScore Bet)
Ten runners over seven furlongs, and the market has shortened Miletus into 4/1 second favourite for a reason. The form string of -25263 reads like a horse that keeps arriving in the places without winning, but that consistency is exactly what you want in a two-way each-way race. Three places at 1/5 odds here, and a horse that finishes second or third regularly will find this place terms attractive.
Rob Hornby takes the ride. Cherry Cobbler at 4/1 is equally short and Stuart Williams has had a quiet 14 days at 0/21, which is a meaningful cold trainer stat. Gallant and Stenmark sit at 9/2 each and have their merits, but Miletus at 7/2 with LiveScore Bet is the clip to take. A straightforward price play on a consistent stayer in the places.
6:35 โ Zyn Pole Position Handicap Division II (7f, 9 runners)
Selection: Al Karrar Each-Way at 11/2 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
This is the race where the course specialist data really earns its keep. Tom Clover trains Al Karrar, and Clover’s numbers at the July Course are a 15% win rate across 74 runners with an A/E of 1.06. That tells you his horses run to their mark here and they don’t drift in price without reason. Al Karrar hasn’t fired recently on the figures, but the 4/36-9 form includes a return from a break (the slash) and a third, which shows this horse has ability on better days.
Critically, Dougie Costello is in the saddle. Costello’s 18% win rate at this track with an A/E of 1.38 is the standout jockey stat on today’s entire card. When Costello partners a Clover horse at the July Course, you have two of the strongest course angles aligning. That combination at 11/2 looks underpriced relative to what the data suggests.
Best Rate at 9/4 is the short-priced favourite with Hannon, but the form of 4-4643 shows a horse that repeatedly runs into a place without winning. At those odds, you need a win. Al Karrar each-way at 11/2 is the value play, with three places at 1/5 odds providing solid insurance.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 11/2 โ Boyle Sports (others: 11/2 Betfred, 11/2 LiveScore Bet)
The Costello and Clover combination at Newmarket’s July Course is the standout angle on this card. Costello wins at 18% here with an A/E of 1.38, Clover operates at 15% and 1.06 A/E across a 74-runner sample at the same venue. Al Karrar has shown ability when conditions have suited, good ground is ideal, and 11/2 in a nine-runner handicap with three places paid is value the market hasn’t fully priced in. Each-way is the play.
