Nottingham Thursday Tips: June 11, 2026
A six-race card at Nottingham on good ground with showers threatening, and there are some genuinely interesting angles to work with. The going should stay decent enough for most of the day, though any significant rain will suit a handful of runners considerably more than others. Three races stand out for analysis: the 5f juvenile novice, the 1mยฝf novice stakes, and the feature handicap. Let’s get into it.
2:35 โ EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (5f, 10 runners)
Ten juveniles over five furlongs, and this is harder to dissect than it looks on paper. Most of these are on debut or have limited form to go on, so trainer stats and market intelligence carry extra weight.
The selection is Nascent Star Each-Way at 11/4 with Boyle Sports and Betfred. Hugo Palmer has been in cracking form with his juveniles, sending out six winners from 32 runners in the last 14 days. That is the kind of trainer stats you simply cannot ignore with a debutant. This Starman colt has a solid pedigree background, related to winners over this sort of trip on the Continent, and the dam’s side has produced Group-level talent at slightly further. Palmer tends to have his first-timers ready to run and the five-furlong trip on good ground fits the profile of a sharp, well-bred juvenile. At 11/4, there is legitimate value here, and with 10 runners the each-way terms reward patience.
Dreamlover at 7/2 is the main market rival and deserves respect. Fourth on debut at Southwell, since gelded, and Rob Hornby is a strong booking. Richard Spencer has sent out two winners in the past fortnight. The problem is that Southwell debut form is hard to trust at face value, and Palmer’s firepower feels like the stronger angle on the day. Keep him onside for place purposes.
Moriarty Moon (3/1) showed greenness at Chester last time but the step from 6f back to 5f could sharpen him up. Michael Bell has been active and the Starspangledbanner breeding suits a sharp track. Not against it, but not ahead of Nascent Star at this price.
3:08 โ ยฃ9 Racedays Novice Stakes (1mยฝf, 4 runners)
Four runners and a fascinating contest between two joint-favourites. This is a genuine match at the top of the market.
The nap of the day comes from this race, but first the case for Decade Of Time at 6/4 is worth acknowledging. Jack Channon has a 19% course strike rate at Nottingham with a positive A/E of 1.24, and this colt won cosily at Windsor last month. He carries a weight penalty for that win but the form looks solid and he clearly stays this trip well.
The selection, however, is Fractional at 6/4 with Boyle Sports and Betfred. William Haggas runs consistently at Nottingham, 19% from 378 runners, and this Frankel filly is being fitted with cheekpieces for the first time, which is a deliberate move from a yard that rarely makes equipment changes without purpose. She was third in a Yarmouth maiden as a two-year-old and ran at Listed level on her return at Newbury. Stepping back down to this grade with a fitness run under her belt and the headgear sharpening her focus, this is a horse with significant untapped ability. Frankel fillies tend to come into their own once the penny drops. The cheekpieces suggest today is the day. Cieren Fallon is 17% at this course and always rides it well.
This is tight at 6/4, but the Haggas angle combined with the headgear move and class in the breeding make Fractional the value call at a price that matches the market leader.
3:42 โ Wildwest Beer Festival Handicap (1mยฝf, 9 runners)
The feature race, and one where the each-way market deserves attention. Nine runners over a mile and a half with showers in the forecast.
The selection is Wondrous Light at 7/2 with Boyle Sports and Betfred. This Jonathan Portman filly has improved sharply this season. She won at Beverley on her reappearance and then followed up in a C&D fillies’ handicap last month on good to soft ground. Today’s good ground is a touch firmer than she ideally wants, but the trainer has sent out four winners from 17 in the last fortnight and the course familiarity is a genuine plus. She has already proven she handles this track, this distance, and big-field handicaps. Stepping up to mixed company is the only genuine query, but her official mark looks workable and she is the most in-form horse in the race.
Return To Unit at 3/1 gets blinkers for the first time for Roger Varian, who is 19% at this course. Won a C&D maiden in October on good ground, so the conditions suit perfectly. The handicap debut was disappointing at Ayr but headgear switches can unlock horses dramatically. Ray Dawson is 15% at Nottingham. This is a serious each-way alternative at around the same price range if Wondrous Light shortens further.
One Night Thunder Each-Way at 15/2 is worth a small each-way interest. Gemma Tutty has 19% at Nottingham with a positive A/E and has been firing with three winners from 12 in the last fortnight. He ran over course and distance in June 2023 and was staying on at Haydock last month. If those showers arrive in quantity, he becomes significantly more dangerous.
- Wondrous Light 7/2 (NAP of the race)
- Return To Unit 3/1 (each-way alternative)
- One Night Thunder 15/2 each-way (rain dependent)
Today’s NAP
Odds: 6/4 โ Boyle Sports (others: 6/4 Betfred, 6/4 LiveScore Bet)
William Haggas rarely makes equipment changes without a clear reason, and the addition of cheekpieces on a Frankel filly who has already run at Listed level tells you this yard expects a performance today. She has a fitness run behind her after a tough assignment at Newbury, drops back to a winnable grade, and Cieren Fallon knows the Nottingham track well. The 19% Haggas course strike rate across a large sample provides the statistical backbone, but the angle here is a talented filly being set up to win rather than just compete. At 6/4 against a rival who carries a weight penalty, this is the correct call.
