Nottingham, Monday 3 August 2026: Day Tips

Good to firm ground at Nottingham on a warm August Monday, and the card is a decent enough six-race affair dominated by fillies’ contests and a nursery handicap. The going suits horses with a turn of foot, so anything sluggish in the gates or needing cut in the ground can be discounted early. Sean Levey and Marco Ghiani both post strong course numbers here, and Owen Burrows is the standout trainer stat at 27% winners at this track. Worth keeping all of that in mind as we work through the card.

2:40 Weatherbys Digital Solutions Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (1mยฝf)

Six runners, small field, classic market between three live contenders. Moonlit Surf is the 7/4 favourite for Owen Burrows, and the trainer angle is hard to ignore given his 27% course strike rate with an A/E of 1.22. Callum Rodriguez takes the ride, and while his 16% at Nottingham is decent, the form reads 6-6542, which tells you she has been knocking on the door without quite getting her head in front. On ground quicker than she may prefer and stepping up in trip, there are enough question marks to make her a lay target rather than a confident back.

Yimmna for William Haggas catches the eye at 5/2 with Boyle Sports. Haggas has 72 wins from 388 runners at this course, and Tom Marquand is booked, which always sharpens the interest. The form shows a seven and a two from two starts, the second placing suggesting she is learning fast. Good to firm is no issue for a Haggas filly, and stepping up to a mile and a half could be exactly what she needs.

Selection: Yimmna, 5/2 Boyle Sports

3:10 Weatherbys Global Stallions App EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (6f)

Lady Leora is the 6/5 favourite trained by Kevin Ryan, a debutante with no public form. Prices that short for an unexposed two-year-old always carry risk, and with Piper Cee for K. R. Burke available at 7/2 with Betfred, there is a more interesting angle in the market.

K. R. Burke has posted 10 wins from 42 runners over the past 14 days, a blistering 24% strike rate in form. Piper Cee with Sam James on board at 7/2 Betfred appeals as the each-way play in a seven-runner novice. Lola De Millman also ran third on debut and is worth a line at 6/1, Rod Millman firing at a remarkable 37% in the last fortnight.

Selection: Piper Cee Each-Way, 7/2 Betfred

3:40 Weatherbys VAT Services Nursery Handicap Stakes (6f)

The most competitive race on the card and the one with the most meat on the bone. Seven runners, a proper nursery, good to firm conditions and a range of prices from 7/4 to 14/1.

Mobadir at 7/4 is the jolly for Ed Walker, who is the fourth-best trainer at this course by win percentage at 16%, and he has been in particularly strong form over the past two weeks with eight wins from 33 runners. However, three consecutive winless efforts, the widest draw in stall seven and a top weight of 129lbs all create friction. Kieran Shoemark is a quality booking, but this looks a short price for a horse yet to go in.

The selection here is Leucothea Each-Way at 5/1 with Boyle Sports and Betfred. Richard Hannon’s yard has sent out 10 winners from 57 runners in the past 14 days, nearly an 18% hit rate, and that yard is clearly firing. Sean Levey rides, posting 17% at Nottingham with an impressive A/E of 1.24, one of the best value jockeys at this course. The form of 2-3-2-0 paints the picture of a filly who consistently performs without quite winning, but in a nursery off what looks a fair mark, that placed consistency is exactly what you want for each-way purposes. She has experience of the trip and today’s going, and at 5/1 she is clearly overpriced against the 7/4 shot who has failed in his last three.

Fern Clyde at 9/1 for Tim Easterby is worth a small interest too. A win three starts ago, experience over six furlongs on good to firm, and Jake Dickson in the saddle, who posts a 30% strike rate at Nottingham from ten rides with an A/E of 1.23. Easterby’s yard is cold at 3% over 14 days, which keeps the stake small, but the jockey stat here is hard to dismiss entirely.

Selection: Leucothea Each-Way, 5/1 Boyle Sports/Betfred. 2 places at 1/4 odds.

Odds: 5/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 5/1 Betfred, 9/2 LiveScore Bet)

Richard Hannon’s yard is in a purple patch with 10 wins from 57 runners over the past fortnight, and Sean Levey’s course A/E of 1.24 marks him as the standout value jockey at Nottingham. Leucothea has been consistently placed in recent starts, handles good to firm, and is equipped for this trip. At 5/1 she represents a much more compelling each-way proposition than the 7/4 market leader who arrives on the back of three winless efforts.
