Punchestown, Saturday 6 June 2026: Full Card Tips
Punchestown on a rain-softened June day. The going is Good to Yielding and forecast rain will only bring it softer as the afternoon goes on. That matters enormously here, where a horse that handles cut is always at a premium. Eight races, a strong Mullins presence as standard, and some genuinely interesting handicap angles. Here is how the card looks.
1:15 โ Ladbrokes Novice Hurdle (2mยฝf)
Selection: Switch From Diesel (3/10 Boyle Sports)
This is as straightforward as it gets on a festival card. Switch From Diesel is a class apart in this field. She posted an RPR of 140 in this sphere, finished second in a Listed race at this very track in December, and handled Grade 1 company at Leopardstown without embarrassment. Her most recent start produced an easy win over course and distance just 24 days ago. She is ground-versatile, proven at Punchestown, and simply a level above her rivals here. The 3/10 price barely pays the bus fare but this is a banker-style run, not a value bet. Use her in multiples.
The danger is Magico at 7/2 (Boyle Sports/Betfred), who made a very encouraging debut at Killarney, beating Tyson Fury by four lengths. His jumping is raw and the spotlight notes he would prefer less rain, which works directly against him today. Good prospect but too early in his career to be tackling this one.
1:50 โ Ladbrokes Handicap Chase (2m)
Selection: Indiana Jones Each-Way (11/1 Boyle Sports/Betfred)
Ten runners, a sharp 2m trip, and the going suits a horse with recent form in similar conditions. Indiana Jones has been quietly revived from a long spell in the doldrums, posting back-to-back improved efforts at Aintree (good to soft) and over this course and distance on yielding ground last time. He drops down in grade today, and crucially, that talented 7lb claimer Alan O’Sullivan takes off a very handy allowance. M F Morris has only had one run in the last 14 days so the form figures are limited, but the horse’s trajectory is clearly upward and 11/1 with three places on offer at 1/5 odds represents real each-way value.
Park That at 9/4 is the obvious market rival and the form credentials are solid enough, a fine second at Navan behind subsequent Ayr winner Moudan being the standout. But the spotlight is clear: he would ideally prefer softer ground than he will get here, and at 9/4 that risk is not priced in. At 11/1 with a horses-for-courses angle and a weight allowance, Indiana Jones offers far better each-way terms.
Hashtag Pretender at 3/1 catches the eye on handicap chase debut with Barry Connell saddling. Connell runs at a remarkable A/E of 1.45 at this track, so ignore his horses at your peril. The concern is that this horse has not been seen since September and has a claimer on board. A place saver if you want belt and braces coverage.
2:25 โ Ladbrokes Beginners Chase (3mยฝf)
Selection: Quantum Quest (11/4 Boyle Sports/Betfred)
Henry De Bromhead has been in red-hot form, sending out nine winners from 38 runners in the last 14 days, and Quantum Quest arrives off a promising effort at Aintree in a Grade 3 handicap hurdle, shaping well over an extended trip before tiring late on. He is rated 129 over hurdles, his dam is related to chase winners, and De Bromhead picks his spots carefully with these types. The stable is firing, the breeding backs switching to fences, and he makes his debut over obstacles with conditions likely to suit.
Vicar Street at 10/3 (Boyle Sports/Betfred) is also worth watching. He comes out of a 312-day absence and the spotlight says let the market guide you, which usually means Mullins know something. If the money comes for him, respect it. But on the known evidence, Quantum Quest looks the value play at a fractionally bigger price.
Da Capo Glory at 7/2 has solid claims on form, placed three times over fences including over course and distance. The issue is he is trained by Padraig Butler whose yard is 0/3 in the last 14 days, and at 9 years old beginners chase form can only take you so far.
3:00 โ Ladbrokes Handicap Chase (3mยฝf, 17 runners)
Selection: Tiffiny’s Girl Each-Way (7/1 Boyle Sports/Betfred)
Seventeen runners over three and a half miles, five places on offer at 1/5 odds, and a mare making her handicap chase debut off a mark that looks highly workable. Tiffiny’s Girl has been consistently placed in point-to-points this season, landed a maiden hunters chase at Cork by 12 lengths, and followed up with a solid second to Muskerry Rock at Wexford just 30 days ago. She has form in heavy ground, trips around this distance suit her, and she is open to significant improvement on her first proper handicap mark. The yard of W J Burke has been hitting a decent 1 from 4 recently. At 7/1 in a wide-open competitive handicap, this is genuine each-way value.
North Of Nashville at 9/2 is the most obvious threat, winning easily by nine lengths at Wexford last time. The caution here is that she failed to back up a similarly easy win in 2023, suggesting she can go in and out, and her mark will have risen sharply off that Wexford demolition job.
Aclass at 15/2 is consistent and stays this trip comfortably, but the spotlight suggests he possibly did too much too soon at Tramore last time and needs to bounce back.
3:40 โ Maiden Hurdle Division I (2mยฝf, 23 runners)
Selection: Rosie’s Wings (9/2 Boyle Sports/Betfred)
Twenty-three runners in a maiden hurdle is a lottery at the best of times. Rosie’s Wings showed genuine improvement on his hurdles debut just 22 days ago, finishing a running-on third beaten only a length at Kilbeggan for the Ross O’Sullivan yard. He joined a new stable and the step forward from that first run is exactly the type of profile that wins these soft mid-season maidens. Ricky Doyle takes the ride and 9/2 is a fair price in a race this competitive.
Firebrand at 3/1 is the experienced rival, but he has been placed nine times over hurdles without winning and that record is hard to look past at a price that implies he should win it.
4:20 โ Maiden Hurdle Division II (2mยฝf, 24 runners)
Selection: Little Ginger Each-Way (8/1 Boyle Sports)
A 24-runner maiden hurdle is chaotic, but Little Ginger brings a recent winning performance and sensible breeding. He won a bumper at Kilbeggan 22 days ago, the third from that race has already franked the form by finishing third at Killarney, and he is described as bred to make a jumper. The James Andrew Fahey yard has been quiet but 8/1 with three places in a field this big is a genuine each-way play. He is a relative newcomer to jumping and should improve sharply.
Coolishael at 11/1 also catches the eye on the each-way front. He was a promising third in a bumper here only 24 days ago, is a half-brother to a winning hurdler, and gets the Punchestown stamp of approval early on. Ross O’Sullivan has two winners from 16 in the last fortnight and this yard can spring a surprise at a price.
4:55 โ Ladbrokes Maiden Hurdle (2m3ยฝf)
Selection: Brother Walfrid (15/8 Boyle Sports)
The bumper effort four days ago at Ballinrobe where he was beaten into fourth looked too bad to be true. He had posted an excellent 3.75l second to Colcannon on his hurdles debut at Fairyhouse in April, a run that marked him as a serious prospect. Gordon Elliott’s yard has sent out seven winners from 54 runners in the last 14 days and the stable clearly knows there is ability here. The step up to 2m3ยฝf is a significant positive based on that Fairyhouse display, and this price is fair given the claims of the De Bromhead runner.
Angelo Dundee at 13/8 (Boyle Sports/Betfred) for Henry De Bromhead is perfectly entitled to head the market. He won his bumper at this track on debut, showed greenness but clear promise over hurdles at Down Royal last time, and the trip increase looks certain to bring out more. A genuine market rival. If forced to choose one, Brother Walfrid at 15/8 offers slightly better value given the bumper blip may flatter his market position downward.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 11/1 โ Boyle Sports (others: 11/1 Betfred, 10/1 LiveScore Bet)
Indiana Jones has returned from a long absence in sharply improved form, placing at Aintree and then over this course and distance on yielding going. He drops down in grade today, takes the assistance of a handy 7lb claimer, and the forecast rain only helps his cause. Three places at 1/5 odds in a 10-runner handicap makes this outstanding each-way value at a double-figure price.
