Rangers in Rampant Form, Motherwell Running on Empty
Ibrox on a Sunday afternoon, Rangers flying, Motherwell leaking goals. This one looks straightforward on paper, and honestly, the numbers back that up.
Rangers have won four of their last five in the Premiership, and the scoring has been ridiculous. Six past Falkirk away from home, four against Dundee United, four against Aberdeen. Even when they kept it tight at St Mirren, they got the job done. The only blemish on that five-match run is a 0-0 draw with Celtic in the Cup, which is hardly a damning result. Fifteen goals scored across those five games. The attack is clicking.
Motherwell, by contrast, have fallen off a cliff. One draw and four defeats in their last five, with 11 goals conceded in that stretch. They lost 3-1 to Hearts, 3-2 at home to Falkirk, and 3-1 away at Celtic. The goals against column tells a brutal story. Fourth place in the table is flattering right now given how they're playing.
Injuries and Team News
Rangers are missing Dujon Sterling, Thelo Aasgaard, and Nasser Djiga, all absent with unknown issues. The depth at Ibrox is good enough to absorb those losses, particularly given how free-scoring the side has been without necessarily relying on one dominant figure.
There is one piece of genuine news worth flagging. Danny Rohl has been defending the timing of James Tavernier's exit announcement alongside a surprise double injury update. Tavernier has been a consistent contributor in 2025/26, eight goals and four assists in 31 appearances, so if he is one of those carrying a knock, that matters more than the others combined. Worth keeping an eye on the team sheet when it drops.
Motherwell are without Jordan McGhee, Aston Oxborough, and Sam Nicholson. Oxborough as goalkeeper is potentially significant depending on who comes in between the sticks when the opposition is in the kind of form Rangers are showing.
The Goalscoring Threat
Tawanda Jethro Maswanhise leads Motherwell's scoring charts with 17 goals and two assists in 30 appearances this season, which is a genuinely impressive return. He is the one player in this Motherwell side capable of making something happen against a big defence. Rangers cannot afford to switch off.
But at the other end, Youssef Chermiti has 11 goals in 25 appearances for Rangers, Miovski has chipped in with seven, and Moore with six. There is no single point of reliance here. Multiple players are contributing in the final third, and that variety makes them much harder to contain.
Motherwell have conceded 11 goals in five games. Rangers have scored 15 in five. These two trends are going to collide at Ibrox, and the smart money says it gets messy.
The Betting Angle
The Rangers win at 1.58 feels tight for value on its own, but Over 2.5 Goals at 1.62 is the line that jumps out. Motherwell are shipping goals at a rate that makes a low-scoring game look unlikely, and Rangers are not the side to keep it sensible when the opportunity is there. Four of Rangers' last five matches have already gone over 2.5, and three of Motherwell's last five have too, including that 3-2 home defeat to Falkirk.
The under at 2.56 would only make sense if Rangers park it to protect players ahead of something big. There is no obvious reason to think that is the plan, and with 69 points on the board in second place, they still have something to play for in terms of the title race. Full throttle feels right here.
Odds: 1.62 โ Smarkets
Rangers have plundered 15 goals in their last five matches, while Motherwell have shipped 11 in the same period. These sides are on a collision course, and both recent trends point firmly to a high-scoring afternoon at Ibrox. The price at 1.62 is fair value given the attacking output on display.
