Redcar, Saturday 20 June 2026: Tips & Best Bets

Redcar stages a seven-race card on good ground under partly cloudy skies, and the three races we’re focusing on all have genuine angles worth playing. The flat five-furlong track here rewards horses that break well and stay prominent, so pace and draw matter. Trainer stats are worth leaning on at this track: Archie Watson (22% strike rate, A/E 1.08), James Tate (23%, A/E 1.05), and Richard Hannon (17%, A/E 1.13) all post positive or near-neutral A/E figures, meaning their runners tend to run to or above their market position. Keep that in mind as we work through the card.

2:12 โ€” racingtv.com/freetrial EBF Novice Stakes (5f, Good)

Six two-year-olds over five furlongs on good ground, and the market has this as a three-horse race. The favourite Cosmic Mystery (5/4, Archie Watson) finished fourth on debut and Watson’s 22% course win rate keeps her firmly in the mix, but 5/4 about a juvenile filly who has only run once is a short price to be backing with confidence.

Rock Steady Beat (2/1, K R Burke) is the selection. Burke’s yard has been firing at 9/50 runners in the last 14 days, a healthy 18% clip that tells you the horses are ready to run. Rock Steady Beat has form figures of 5-2, placed last time out, and should strip fitter for that experience. Pierre-Louis Jamin takes the ride, and he’s been in good form on the card. At 2/1 with the in-form Burke yard behind him, this is a more comfortable price than the favourite.

Selection: Rock Steady Beat, 2/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

3:22 โ€” Watch Racing TV Free For 31 Days Handicap (5f, Good)

A tight six-runner 3yo handicap where the market is dominated by Schrodinger’s Cat at 6/4. Grant Tuer’s gelding has placed twice from five starts and holds solid form figures of 1-2283, but Tuer has had a barren 14 days with zero winners from 12 runners. That cold-yard angle is a genuine flag in a small field.

Dark Angel Star is the play at 4/1 with Boyle Sports and Betfred. James Tate sends her here with a 23% course win record and an A/E of 1.05, which means his runners at Redcar consistently justify their market positions. Dark Angel Star’s form of 4312-7 shows a horse that has been placed at this level, and the step back from wherever she disappointed last time is worth forgiving for a trainer with this course record. Connor Beasley rides and knows the track well. At twice the price of the jolly, this is where the value sits.

Selection: Dark Angel Star, 4/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

4:00 โ€” Start Your Racing TV Free Trial Handicap (5f, Good, 10 runners)

The feature race on the card, and with ten runners at five furlongs, this is a proper sprint handicap with several live claims. Far Above The Law heads the market at 5/2 across the board, and on recent form showing 84-312, the Michael Herrington gelding is clearly in decent nick. He gets a 7lb claim from Conor Whiteley, which helps, and there’s no dismissing him at a short price in a field this size.

But the selection is Ziggy’s Triton Each-Way at 9/1 with Boyle Sports and Betfred (17/2 LiveScore Bet). David O’Meara is the most experienced handler at this track by some distance: 110 winners from 751 runners, 15% strike rate. His recent form shows 8/62 in the last 14 days, a solid enough clip for a big northern yard. Ziggy’s Triton has inconsistent figures of 951070, but that’s exactly the kind of profile that can be forgiven at 9/1 in a handicap when the trainer’s angle is strong. JF Egan takes the ride, the weight (127lbs) is manageable, and at 3 places each-way at 1/5 odds, a place return at this price represents real value in a competitive ten-runner field.

If you want a win bet in this race, Night Storm (10/3, James Tate) also catches the eye given Tate’s 23% course record and the horse’s form of 0/11-3 suggesting he stays in contention.

Selection: Ziggy’s Triton each-way, 9/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksDark Angel Star โ€” Watch Racing TV Free For 31 Days Handicap (3:22, Redcar)
Odds: 4/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 4/1 Betfred, 4/1 LiveScore Bet)

James Tate has a 23% strike rate at Redcar with an A/E of 1.05, meaning his runners at this track deliver exactly what the market expects and more. Dark Angel Star has shown ability at this level with a win and a place in recent starts, and the market leader’s trainer has gone cold over the past fortnight. In a six-runner handicap, 4/1 about a Tate runner with course-positive stats is simply too big to ignore.
