๐Ÿ“… 29 July 2026 Horse Racing

Redcar, Wednesday 29 July 2026

A midweek card at Redcar on good to firm ground, with three apprentice contests making up the bulk of the action. The straight mile and the sprint trip suit horses that can travel prominently, and the going rewards those with a clean action. George Boughey continues to fire at 33% at this track, and K.R. Burke’s yard has been in exceptional form over the past fortnight. Let’s get into it.

2:05 โ€” Racing TV Free Trial British Apprentice Handicap Stakes (6f, Good To Firm)

Selection: Amorim (3/1, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

George Boughey is the standout trainer at this venue by some distance. A 33% strike rate from 43 runners with an A/E of 1.21 tells you the yard targets Redcar deliberately and wins here regularly. With four winners from 20 runners in the last 14 days, the stable is ticking over nicely right now.

Amorim has hit the frame in three of his last five starts, including back-to-back thirds in his two most recent outings. He handles today’s trip and this going, and for a horse that keeps finding the first three without quite getting his head in front, a sharp apprentice track like Redcar on quick ground suits the type. The 3/1 is fair given the trainer angle and consistent placed form. Jack Callan has decent course form on his side too.

Star Material is the chief danger at 11/2. A third last time out with a solid second buried a few runs back, and the rating makes him respected. But Boughey’s record at this venue is too strong to ignore at the top of the market.

2:40 โ€” Start Your Racing TV Free Trial Apprentice Fillies’ Novice Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Selection: Royale Union (10/3, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

K.R. Burke has sent out 10 winners from 29 runners in the last 14 days. That is a yard absolutely on fire right now, and Royale Union represents them here at a workable price. Jack Nicholls rides, and his course record at Redcar is exceptional: 25% winners from 16 rides with an A/E of 1.72. That is the kind of jockey-course combination you back when the price is right.

Royale Union has a run under her belt and is stepping up in trip to seven furlongs. Novice fillies races like this often fall to horses with experience, and the form of the two market leaders needs examination. Vanilla Skies (9/4) is trained by William Haggas who has a 26% course strike rate, so she warrants respect, but Haggas’s A/E of 0.95 here is almost exactly flat, suggesting the market does its job for his runners rather than offering value. Areti is odds-on favourite but has five runs without winning and has failed to hit the frame in her last three starts. Fading favourites at even money in fillies novice races is one of the more reliable patterns in the book.

Burke in form, Nicholls with an A/E of 1.72 at this course, and 10/3 against an odds-on favourite with a questionable profile. This is the angle.

3:50 โ€” Marske Fabrications Straight Mile Apprentice Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (1m, Good To Firm)

Selection: Sandy Craic (10/3, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Seven runners, a straight mile on quick ground, and a race that sets up nicely for a mare with a consistent profile. Sandy Craic was second last time out, won two starts ago, and has placed in three of her last four outings. She handles today’s trip and going, and that level of consistency in a competitive fillies handicap is exactly what you want.

The obvious threats. Homestrait (4/1) won last time out but her trainer Brian Ellison has zero winners from 25 runners in the last fortnight. Ice cold stables do not tend to produce track-fit, well-prepared handicappers. Wild Dahlia (9/4) is the market leader from the Haggas yard, and she showed form last season, but 280 days off the track is a significant concern for a race you need to be fully wound up to win. She might need the run.

Thornaby Annie at 7/1 with Jack Nicholls on board is worth a second look given his course record, and her consistent placed form makes her a genuine each-way threat. But Sandy Craic’s form is cleaner, the price is fair, and David O’Meara has a solid 15% course record with a flat A/E meaning he doesn’t send runners here without a plan.

  • Amorim (2:05) โ€” 3/1, Boyle Sports
  • Royale Union (2:40) โ€” 10/3, Boyle Sports
  • Sandy Craic (3:50) โ€” 10/3, Boyle Sports

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksRoyale Union โ€” Start Your Racing TV Free Trial Apprentice Fillies’ Novice Stakes (2:40, Redcar)
Odds: 10/3 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 10/3 Betfred, 11/4 LiveScore Bet)

K.R. Burke has been in devastating form over the past two weeks, and Jack Nicholls carries an A/E of 1.72 at this track from 16 rides. The odds-on favourite Areti has failed to hit the frame in her last three starts and is being sent off at a price that simply does not reflect that form. Royale Union has experience, a hot trainer, and the right pilot on a track where he clearly thrives. The 10/3 is generous.
