Ripon, Monday 6 July 2026: Tips and Analysis

A Monday evening card at Ripon, six races on good ground under partly cloudy skies. Not the deepest programme of the season, but there are angles worth exploiting, particularly in the 5f handicap and the mile maiden. Daniel Tudhope and Tom Marquand both have strong course records here, and William Haggas fires with purpose whenever he sends runners north to this track. Pick your spots carefully.

7:40 — Mark’s Choice Ripon’s Most-Winning Horse Handicap (5f)

Selection: Tees Aggregates Each-Way at 11/2 with Boyle Sports or Betfred

This is a competitive nine-runner sprint handicap on a track where fresh form counts for a lot, and Tees Aggregates brings the most current and convincing piece of form to the table. Jack Nicholls rides, and the apprentice has a 20% strike rate at Ripon from a decent sample, with an A/E of 1.21 that tells you he outperforms his market position here.

The horse won at Catterick last time, staying on strongly to beat his field by 1.5 lengths with something clearly in hand. He steps up in grade now but has the form to justify that move, handles today’s good going without question, and arrives off a mark that still looks workable. At 11/2 in a field of nine, three places at 1/5 gives this a very decent each-way case.

The main danger is Goyard at 7/4, who the form book points at as the one to beat. David O’Meara’s horse shaped with credit at Pontefract, handles the conditions, and Tudhope’s 21% course strike rate is hard to ignore. At 7/4 though, you are not getting value. Goyard needs to win to pay, while Tees Aggregates pays either way at three times the price.

Rock Of England also deserves respect. Won here last time and thrives on a sound surface at 5f. The handicapper has raised him 6lb, which is the key question at 11/2. If he handles the revised mark, he will be involved.

Selection: Sovereign Grace at 11/4 with Boyle Sports or LiveScore Bet

Thirteen runners and a wide-open novice, but Sovereign Grace stands out as the one with the most obvious improvement angle. The K R Burke yard has been in form recently (6/35 last 14 days), and this filly’s debut at York is easy to upgrade. She was never given a clear run in that race, beaten 6.5 lengths in a novice where she was visibly held up and had nowhere to go. That is not a performance to judge her by.

The pedigree spans speed and stamina, today’s 6f on good ground suits, and Burke is a trainer who tends to improve juveniles sharply between runs once they have had the cobwebs blown off. Sam James takes the ride and is a reliable operator in these smaller northern meetings.

Travellers Girl at 6/1 is the main threat on exposed form, having run third at Thirsk just five days ago. Consistent, handles the conditions, and the only proven runner with two runs behind her. Could easily be placed. At 6/1 with three places on offer she is a reasonable each-way alternative if you want the safer option.

6:39 — Merit Estates Chartered Surveyors Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (1m)

Selection: Alterity at 11/10 with Boyle Sports or LiveScore Bet

Five runners and a match on paper between Alterity and Queen’s Hame, both available at 11/10. The nod goes to Alterity on the basis of existing racecourse form. Queen’s Hame is a daughter of Gleneagles making her debut, well regarded by Haggas and clearly bred for the mile, but debut fillies at odds-on ask you to trust reputation over evidence.

Alterity has shown consistent form at this trip on sound ground, including a length third at Beverley 13 days ago. Charlie Johnston’s yard has been extremely busy and productive recently (8/70 last 14 days), and Jason Hart rides with confidence. The filly sets the standard on recent runs, stays the mile well, and handles today’s conditions. In a small field against a debutante at the same price, the one with proven form is the sounder bet.

Queen’s Hame could win, no question. But at 11/10 you are being asked to go even money on an unraced horse against one that has finished third and second in recent starts. The value sits with Alterity.

The 7/4 favourite Goyard is the logical threat, but at three times the price with three places on offer, this is where the value sits in an otherwise tight sprint.
