Salisbury, Tuesday 9 June 2026: Tips and Best Bets
Soft ground and light rain at Salisbury sets the scene for three featured races today. The going will separate the genuine soft-ground performers from those flattered by quicker conditions, and that is the primary lens through which to view each of these contests. Oisin Murphy’s record at this track (23% strike rate, A/E of 1.14) and Cieren Fallon’s even more impressive numbers (21%, A/E 1.27) make both worth tracking on any Salisbury card. John and Thady Gosden’s yard has been busy and productive over the past fortnight, posting seven winners from 24 runners, and that stat looms large in the opener.
4:18 โ Kingsclere Racing Club Maiden Stakes (1m2f, Soft)
Selection: Centrum (15/8, Boyle Sports) โ John and Thady Gosden / Robert Havlin
The market is split between the odds-on favourite Besieged and this Gosden debutant, and at 15/8 about a first-time-out Dubawi half-brother to Enable, the value points squarely at Centrum. The family connection is extraordinary: Enable won the Oaks, two Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, and posted an RPR of 129. That is not a throwaway pedigree note, it is the most dominant stamina-and-class bloodline in recent European racing. The dam was a Listed winner at 1m2f. Soft ground suits Enable’s family profile perfectly.
Gosden’s yard is firing at seven winners from 24 in the last 14 days. Robert Havlin rides and knows the stable’s debutants as well as anyone. Besieged has twice finished second without winning, and while the Spotlight calls him the standard-setter, being unable to get off the mark in two attempts leaves a question mark. A Gosden Dubawi colt of this pedigree, in a yard firing, on ground that favours his family, at odds against on debut? Take the price.
3:48 โ Danny McNab Bookmakers Novice Stakes (7f, Soft)
Selection: Le Samourai (7/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet) โ Ralph Beckett / Rossa Ryan
A 450,000gns yearling who is a half-brother to Romantic Warrior, a multiple Group and Grade 1 winner from six furlongs to a mile and a quarter. That is serious firepower. Le Samourai is the only newcomer in the race, but Beckett handles expensive debutants with care and does not run them before they are ready. The yard has gone five winners from 36 in the last fortnight, a solid clip for a yard of that size.
Bright Summer carries a penalty after winning at Lingfield on the AW and is respected, but soft ground at Salisbury is a different test from an all-weather seven furlongs. Bold Shout showed promise at Newbury on good to firm, which is almost the polar opposite of today’s conditions. Hugh is interesting but has only faced AW tracks so far. The Beckett debutant gets the verdict: the pedigree screams soft ground and middle distances, and 7/4 on debut for a horse of this calibre in this stable is a workable price.
4:53 โ Everywhen Margadale Fillies’ Handicap (1m2f, Soft)
Selection: Rossa Raheen (Evens, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet) โ Ollie Sangster / David Probert
The favourite, and justified favouritism at that. Ollie Sangster posts a 15% strike rate at Salisbury with an A/E of 1.01, meaning his runners here run bang to their market expectations. This 3yo filly ran to an RPR of 85 on just her fourth start and the Spotlight notes she was unlucky not to finish closer at Newbury last time, failing to get a clear run. That form is over the same 1m2f trip, on good ground, and soft will only enhance her stamina credentials as a daughter of a route pedigree.
She is unexposed after just four starts, she arrives fresh with improvement clearly in her, and the handicapper has not had the chance to clamp down on her mark. Morven for Beckett is the obvious danger at 11/4, but Rossa Raheen at evens in a soft-ground 1m2f handicap where she was unlucky last time out is the play. The concern is the even-money price in an eight-runner field does not trigger an each-way recommendation, but win-only at evens about a lightly-raced improver on suitable ground is solid value.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 15/8 โ Boyle Sports (others: 7/4 LiveScore Bet, SP Betfred)
A Dubawi half-brother to Enable making his debut for a Gosden yard that has been red-hot over the past fortnight. Soft ground at Salisbury over 1m2f is the ideal introduction for a horse of this pedigree, and the family’s record on testing ground is about as good as it gets in European Flat racing. Besieged has had two cracks at winning and failed both times. Back the debutant with the elite bloodline at odds against while you can.
