Sandown, Friday 12 June 2026: Tips and Best Bets

Good ground at Sandown on a cloudy Friday afternoon, and there are three races worth attacking across the card. The going suits a range of types, and with 17 runners in the feature handicap, there is genuine each-way value to chase. Connor Planas and William Buick are the jockeys to follow at this track based on recent course form, and the Gosden yard has been firing on all cylinders with eight winners from 33 runners over the past fortnight.

1:38 โ€” Chris Barnett Memorial Handicap Div I (5f, Good)

A compact ten-runner sprint and the race that opens proceedings. Silver Wraith at 4/1 with Boyle Sports and Betfred is the call here. David Probert takes the ride for Emma Lavelle, whose yard has returned two winners from eight runners in the past 14 days, showing they are ticking over nicely. The form figure of 321-12 tells its own story: this filly has been consistently competitive, placing in four of her six starts, and that recent second keeps her handicap mark live. Good ground is exactly what she wants, and five furlongs at Sandown suits her pace-forward style.

Good Earth Each-Way at 15/2 deserves a mention purely on the trainer and jockey combination. Michael Herrington runs at 30% winners at Sandown with an A/E of 2.06, the standout course trainer stat on today’s card. Connor Planas, who rides him, posts a remarkable A/E of 3.12 at this track. The nine-year-old is no spring chicken, but his form of 861415 shows he finds the frame, and at 15/2 with three places on offer at 1/5 odds, an each-way play is worth a few pounds.

Selection: Silver Wraith at 4/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

2:48 โ€” British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (7f, Good)

Seven runners, a small field, and an odds-on Charlie Appleby hotpot. King’s Welcome at 8/11 with Boyle Sports and Betfred is the Appleby representative with William Buick in the saddle, and on a track where Buick hits 18% winners from 638 rides, the combination demands respect. Appleby’s yard has won three from 14 at Sandown, and while his course A/E of 0.86 suggests the market slightly overcooks his runners here, a debutant for Godolphin in a maiden of this quality deserves to go off favourite.

The value play is Pat’s Cash at 9/2 with both Boyle Sports and Betfred. Hugo Palmer has been in exceptional form over the past fortnight, saddling eight winners from 35 runners. Oisin Murphy rides, and his 16% strike rate at Sandown from 467 rides gives him genuine course authority. Pat’s Cash ran a debut second, which is solid form for a two-year-old stepping up in trip, and good ground at seven furlongs opens up his stamina. If King’s Welcome disappoints or gets outrun early, this one should be finishing strongly.

Selection: Pat’s Cash at 9/2 (Boyle Sports / Betfred, others: 9/2)

3:23 โ€” Molson Coors Handicap (1m2f, Good, 17 runners)

Seventeen runners, four places on offer, and a field where the market is genuinely open. This is where the punting gets interesting.

Dangerman at 7/2 with Boyle Sports, Betfred and LiveScore Bet is the Gosden contender with William Buick on board. The combination of Gosden firing at eight from 33 over 14 days and Buick’s course record makes this look solid at the top of the market. The form figure of 1139-4 shows a horse with a win and a near-miss in his recent history, and dropping back to handicap company at 1m2f on good ground looks an ideal setup. At 7/2 it is not a value price, but the confidence factor is high.

The each-way angle that really appeals is Sweet Reward Each-Way at 9/1 with Boyle Sports and Betfred (8/1 available at LiveScore Bet). Jonathan Portman has three winners from 17 runners in the past fortnight, and this nine-year-old has been rejuvenated of late. The form of 57-211 is outstanding for a horse at this level: two consecutive wins coming into today, with a rating that may not yet fully reflect that recent improvement. Seventeen runners with four places at 1/5 odds makes the each-way case straightforward. Olivia Tubb takes the 5lb claim, which brings the weight down to a workable level, and good ground at a mile and two furlongs suits a horse that stays well.

Selection: Dangerman to win, Sweet Reward each-way

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksSweet Reward โ€” Molson Coors Handicap (3:23, Sandown)
Odds: 9/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 9/1 Betfred, 8/1 LiveScore Bet)

Two wins on the spin have this nine-year-old arriving in form that his current mark does not yet fully account for. Jonathan Portman has three winners from 17 in the past fortnight, good ground at Sandown suits, and with 17 runners funnelling into four each-way places, the value case at 9/1 is clear. Olivia Tubb’s 5lb claim is a bonus, not a question mark, on a horse fit enough to win.

Each-Way Recommended โ€” 4 places at 1/5 odds
