18:11 – Grade A2 435m

Baby Cupcakes has shown the sharpest recent form in this A2 field, posting a 3-1-1-5-2 run on home sand at Star Pelaw over the past three weeks. The 3-year-old bitch claimed victory by 2¼ lengths on 7 June at A3 level and followed that with a narrow third on 12 June in an identical grade race. Trainer S Atkinson has kept the dog in rails (Trap 1) where form reads consistently, though a trap 1 finish of 3rd last time out suggests the early pace may have been sharp. The trap bias data for 435m shows Trap 1 dominates at 36 per cent strike rate, significantly ahead of the field. Baby Cupcakes has clear pace credentials from quick-away marks and sustained her challenge through bend positions, making the inside berth a genuine strength rather than a weakness here.

Dromana Fergie, trained by D Bell, offers the main alternative: a 2-year-old dog with a 2-4-2-2 recent record, including a narrow second on 12 June at this very grade and distance. Glengiblin Frank is the standout form pick here. The 3-year-old dog trained by R McCarthy has won twice in his last five outings at this exact grade and distance, including a smooth 1-length victory on 2 June and a hard-fought 2-length second on 9 June. His form string reads 1-2-2-1-3, showing consistency in A3 company at Star Pelaw. The dog settles well from Trap 2 (15 per cent strike rate here, below par, but his record shows he compensates with smart middle-to-rails positioning and strong finish pace). His tape shows early pace control and a knack for leading into the closing stages.

Knackstar, trained by S Miller, presents a slight danger with a recent win at A4 level on 26 May, but he has fallen away in A3 company, finishing 4th and 3rd respectively since. The form trajectory favours Glengiblin Frank’s proven A3 credentials. Hawkfield Lexi is unproven at this track’s A3 level after recent runs at Shelbourne Park and provincial tracks.

Caseys Jake, a 4-year-old dog trained by S Atkinson, emerges as the best-positioned runner in this field. The dog has shown he can lead from middle trap (Trap 2, 15 per cent strike rate) and can also close from slightly behind, a dual threat that suits a 435m trip. His 29 May winning run noted “AHandy, Ld2, DrewClr, Fr1/2” – textbook A3 dominance with pace and clear air in the closing straight.

Abbeyside Enda, trained by D Bell, has shown ability but recent form includes a disqualification on 26 May and consecutive 4th and 5th place finishes that suggest the dog is struggling at this level. Aremanwhy, the younger dog from G Foot’s yard, does boast an A5 win on 29 May, but the jump to A3 is steep and recent form shows a 6th and 5th in tighter company.

Her form string over five recent runs reads 1-4-3-5-2, and whilst the spread is uneven, the 9 June winning run from Trap 2 shows she can overcome the modest trap bias (15 per cent) with quick-away pace and strong early positioning marked as “QAw, Rls-Mid, ALd.” The form on 19 May (2nd from Trap 2) underlines her ability to run close at this grade. Trainer S Miller has prepped the dog well for A4 company.

Hexel Mason, trained by R McCarthy, owns a recent A4 win on 19 May but has posted only one top-three finish in four subsequent outings, suggesting regression. Statsman, the younger runner, carries no relevant 435m form at this UK grade and remains unexposed in A4 context.
