This Northamptonshire venue is known as a stayers’ track, and tonight’s feature races are all at 500m, which suits established runners with proven stamina and consistency.

20:24 – Grade A5 500m

This A5 sprint is shaping as the most competitive heat on the card. Salacres Elmejor has been knocking on the door all season with two consecutive seconds at this grade over the last fortnight. The dog showed strong early pace and disputed leadership before tiring slightly, but the form reads consistently at this level. Trap 1 is in exceptional form at Towcester 500m, winning 21 per cent of races over the last 21 days. Salacres Elmejor has raced from Trap 1 and 2 recently, running well in both, and the rails draw should suit the dog’s front-running tendencies. Bambis Daisy has recorded two wins at A6 level and strong recent form including a win at this distance, but Romeo Go West is the danger: the young dog has won three of the last four, all from middle-to-rails draws, and showed very quick away speed (VQAw notation) in his last outing. 20:41 – Grade A2 500m

The evening’s highest-class race features a strong three-way battle between Salacres Awyr, Fabulous Allana, and the younger Makeit Royal. Fabulous Allana has been in outstanding form, winning two of the last three at A3 level and showing electric early pace (SnLd: snap lead). The 4-year-old has run from Trap 3 consistently and delivered wins and seconds in that draw. Trap 3 holds 18 per cent of wins at 500m here, middling performance, but Fabulous Allana’s recent race profile – quick away and leading early – suggests the dog is thriving regardless of draw. Salacres Awyr was narrowly second last time from Trap 1 at this exact grade and distance, and Trap 1 is the standout draw at 21 per cent. However, the dog’s form earlier in April shows inconsistency (a 6th and 5th). Makeit Royal has only two runs at 500m, both delivering thirds, and at just 1 year old is less proven at this step up in grade. 18:59 – Grade A6 500m

Great Time returns to A6 after recent outings at A7 and has impressed with a recent win and second, both from Trap 2. The 2-year-old is showing upward form with consistent early-pace running (EP: early pace) and strong leadership on at least one occasion (ALd: almost led). Trap 2 at Towcester 500m sits at 18 per cent for recent win strikes, a solid if not dominant draw. Swift Isla has run more races here and holds three thirds and one second from five recent A6 outings, always from Trap 3, with a clear pattern of running-on form (RnOn) rather than front-running. The dog lacks the recent sparkle that Great Time shows. Limited form is available for Fabulous Miley, Mums Image, Bellicus Breeze, and Run Kirstie Run. Great Time’s upward trajectory and proven recent wins at this level make it the lean choice. NAP: Great Time, Trap 2.

21:16 – Grade A4 500m

The evening finale features Trumpers Derek and Fabulous Rey as the standout contenders. Trumpers Derek has been running consistently at this grade with two wins in the last month, including a last-time-out second by the shortest margin (½) just a week ago from Trap 1. The dog carries excellent form (2, 1, 1 at A4) and has benefited from Trap 1’s 21 per cent strike rate at this venue. Fabulous Rey is younger (1 year) and also won last time by the same marginal distance (½), but that success came from Trap 2 and the dog has less overall exposure at 500m. Salacres Prodigy has run five times at A4 without a win, with mostly mid-range placings.
