Cameron Young Leads by Six at Quail Hollow; Scheffler Chases
Cameron Young has carved out a commanding position heading into Sunday's final round at the Truist Championship, sitting at 15-under par after two rounds at Quail Hollow Club. A second-round 67 followed a blistering 64 in Round 1, leaving Young six clear of a three-man logjam at 9-under: Scottie Scheffler, Si Woo Kim and Kristoffer Reitan all locked together on the leaderboard. The 27-year-old's aggressive ball-striking has overwhelmed the field; he's the only player in double digits under par as Round 3 approaches.
Our Pre-Tournament Pick
Scottie Scheffler entered the week as our fancy to claim the trophy, and he remains very much alive in contention at 9-under, just six shots adrift of Young. A second-round 67 was steady rather than spectacular, but the world number one's position inside the top three keeps him squarely in the reckoning. With a major gap to close and two rounds to play, Scheffler's task has grown tougher, but his pedigree and course history suggest he can't be written off.
Who's in Contention
Young's lead is substantial enough to survive a stumble, but this course can reward low scores in bunches. Si Woo Kim and Kristoffer Reitan both carded 68 in Round 2 to stake their claims, while Ben Griffin sits at 8-under after an impressive 70-70 pairing. Griffin's form stands out on the board: he's moved steadily up the leaderboard without fireworks, the kind of grinding golf that translates on Sundays. Nick Taylor rounds out the chasing pack at 8-under, though his even-par Round 2 suggests momentum may be stalling.
The gap between fifth and tenth is tight: just two strokes separate Griffin and Alex Noren (7-under). Akshay Bhatia's 72 in Round 2 masks some brilliant work on Thursday, and Michael Kim's aggressive 71-in-Round-2 kept him in the hunt at 6-under. At these odds, Young is priced as the clear favourite, but the back door remains open for any player capable of a 64 or 65 on Sunday.
Round 3 Betting Angles
Young's runaway looks real, but beware complacency. Quail Hollow can punish tentative golf, and leading by six in a field this strong invites pressure. If Scheffler or Kim string together birdies early, Young could feel the heat sooner than expected.
Back Scheffler for a round-three low. His 67 on Friday shows the world number one has found his range here. With two rounds left and a six-shot deficit, Scheffler will need an aggressive round to stay alive. We now have him at around 15-20% win probability from this position, and Sunday's conditions could suit a bold front-runner.
Si Woo Kim's consistency is underrated value. Two rounds of 70 and 68 suggest he's found his rhythm. At 28/1 for the tournament, Kim is worth a small each-way stake if you fancy him to post a low round and either force a playoff or outright break through.
Our Updated Pick
Odds: 6.5/1 โ bet365
Six shots back with everything to play for, Scheffler remains the most talented player in this field. His 67 in Round 2 proved he's locked in at Quail Hollow, and two rounds remain to hunt down Young. If the favourite falters even slightly, Scheffler's ball-striking and course knowledge should see him through. Stick with him.
