Uttoxeter, Tuesday 7 July 2026: Tips & Analysis

Good ground at Uttoxeter on a partly cloudy Tuesday afternoon. The track plays fair on a sound surface and today’s three-race focus throws up some genuinely interesting angles. Dan Skelton’s yard is on fire right now, with 12 winners from 23 runners over the last fortnight, and Harry Skelton sits at a 28% strike rate at this course specifically. When those two numbers align, you pay attention.

1:30 โ€” CopyBet Novices’ Hurdle (2m, Good, 10 runners)

This novice hurdle looks a two-horse match on paper, with Eternal Angel and Ride Like A Girl dominating the market. Tom Lacey’s Eternal Angel ran a solid second last time and the form reads like a horse learning his trade, but at odds-on, there is no value whatsoever.

Selection: Ride Like A Girl (5/4, Boyle Sports/Betfred)

Gavin Sheehan takes the ride, and he is a man worth following at this track, posting a 19% strike rate here with an A/E of 1.12. Jamie Snowden’s yard has sent out six winners from 17 runners in the last fortnight, so the operation is absolutely in form. The mare won last time out, her form line reads /344-1, and that winning run gives her the confidence boost a novice hurdler needs. The 2m trip on good ground is fine for her, and at 5/4 she is the right side of the market in a race where the favourite has already drifted late. Take the 5/4.

2:00 โ€” CopyBet Novices’ Handicap Chase (2m4f, Good, 8 runners)

Eight runners over 2m4f on good ground. Dan Skelton and Harry Skelton are operating at near a third of winners combined across course and trainer stats, and when you see that combination at Uttoxeter it would take a brave man to look elsewhere.

Selection: Ice Jet (10/11, Boyle Sports)

Three wins from his last three starts, the form line 72-111 tells the story of a horse who has completely clicked since switching to fences. Dan Skelton has sent out 10 winners from 30 runners in the last 14 days, and Harry Skelton’s course record speaks for itself. The 2m4f trip on good ground suits a horse with his chasing profile, and a mark of 153lbs in a novice handicap looks workable given that recent sequence. Odds-on is never ideal for a win single but this is one of those cases where the horse has earned the price. Back him and move on.

If you want each-way value in this race, Back In The Bay Each-Way at 13/2 with Boyle Sports is worth a small interest. James Owen has a 31% course win rate at Uttoxeter with an A/E of 1.25, the best trainer figure on the card today, and Jonathan Burke claims an 18% strike rate here. The mare won three of her last four before a disappointing run on her seasonal return. The form 1213-7 includes that reappearance flop, and forgive-and-revisit is a legitimate angle here at a price with three places on offer.

3:00 โ€” CopyBet Handicap Hurdle (2m7f, Good, 12 runners)

Twelve runners, four places at 1/5 odds, and a genuinely open handicap over nearly three miles. The market is headed by Sunray Shadow at 7/4, and that price is fair enough, but there are more interesting angles at bigger prices.

Selection: Stumps Or Slips Each-Way (7/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred)

The form line 311-1 says it all. This nine-year-old has been a consistent performer and his most recent win gives him a fitness advantage over those returning from long breaks. Sean Bowen takes the ride, posting a 21% win rate at Uttoxeter from 561 attempts. The 2m7f trip is exactly what a front-runner or strong-staying type wants on good ground, and at 7/1 in a 12-runner handicap with four places, the each-way case is straightforward. Polly Gundry’s yard has been quiet in the last 14 days but that is not necessarily a red flag for an experienced campaigner this far into his career.

At 11/2, Smugglers Haven also deserves a mention. The form 221F-1 includes a recent win and the fall is easily forgiven. She is the obvious market mover threat to the Skelton horse at the top, but Stumps Or Slips gives you better value on the each-way front.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksIce Jet โ€” CopyBet Novices’ Handicap Chase (2:00, Uttoxeter)
Odds: 10/11 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: evens Betfred)

Three wins on the spin since taking to fences, Dan Skelton’s yard is firing at nearly 50% in the last fortnight, and Harry Skelton’s 28% course strike rate with an A/E of 1.09 at Uttoxeter is elite by any measure. Good ground at 2m4f is the ideal conditions for this improving five-year-old. The price will not excite, but on a day where value is spread thin, this is the banker you build your card around.
