Uttoxeter, Tuesday 15 July 2026: Tips & Best Bets

A seven-race card at Uttoxeter gives punters a mid-week jumps fix, and there are angles worth exploiting across the featured handicaps and novice heats. The Skelton operation looms large here as ever, Harry Skelton converting at 28% over this course, and Dan Skelton’s yard sits at 23% course-wide. When those two combine at Uttoxeter, they deserve respect. Olly Murphy is another trainer who knows how to win here, and his booking of Sean Bowen adds further firepower. Here are the races that matter most today.

2:18 QuinnBet Daily Free Bet Mares’ Maiden Hurdle (2m4f)

Nine mares, no form figures to shout about, but the race profile is readable enough if you follow the yards. Fine Thing is the selection at 15/8 (Betfred), ridden by Harry Skelton for Dan Skelton. That combination at this track alone is reason to sit up. The form reads /2P-23, which at first glance looks modest, but two placed efforts from her last two completed runs tells you she stays in contention and jumps well enough to get home. She steps up slightly here but the 2m4f trip looks made for her type. The Skelton yard is a factory at Uttoxeter and this maiden trip is exactly where they place their better prospects.

The dangers are Cougarontheloose at 10/3, with Sean Bowen booked and Olly Murphy saddling, another yard that fires here. Her bumper form (342) is respectable. Moonshine River (10/3, Ciaran Gethings) has placed five times from six career starts and is the most consistent mare in the field on paper. If Fine Thing has any weakness in her jumping, Moonshine River will be waiting.

Selection: Fine Thing at 15/8 (Betfred). Skelton plus Skelton at Uttoxeter. Simple as that.

3:18 Bravo Benefits Celebrations Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (3m)

Four runners over three miles, and this is a straightforward case for the favourite if you can stomach the price. Sunray Shadow is available at 10/11 across the board and the form figure of 2-1113 explains why: three wins from his last three completed starts. Harry Skelton rides again, and at this track that booking is essentially a green flag. Dan Skelton’s 23% course strike rate and Skelton’s own 28% rider figure make them the combination you want to be on.

The value alternative at better odds is Samuel Spade at 2/1 (Betfred, LiveScore Bet). The 88-415 form is patchy, but the latest figure of 5 hides a five-place effort that may have been closer than it reads. Beau Morgan (5lb claim) rides and Ben Pauling has been quiet of late, which is the concern.

Sony Bill at 8/1 is the longshot for those who want to step outside. Faye Bramley has been in form across the last fortnight (3/7 last 14 days), which is a yard firing hot, and Harry Cobden does not take cheap rides. The 045-43 form is scrappy but this is only a four-runner contest.

Selection: Sunray Shadow at 10/11 (across the board). Not a price to get excited about, but the hat-trick form and Skelton’s course record make this a confident play rather than a speculative one.

4:18 Alfie Flatt 18th Birthday Celebration Handicap Chase (2m4f)

Five runners and the most interesting race on the card. The expert comment data points firmly at Le Gentleman as the pick, and at 13/8 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) or 6/4 (LiveScore Bet), the price is fair for a horse flagged as the selection by the form analysts. A five-year-old returning off just a 19-day turnaround suggests the yard is confident, and a runner-up last time out over this exact trip keeps him fully in the mix. Jack Tudor is a sharp booking and Oliver Greenall’s yard, while cold over the last two weeks (0/5), has a horse here who looks primed rather than placed.

Pep Talking Each-Way at 10/3 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) is the value alternative. Gavin Sheehan rides, and that jockey converts at 18% here with an A/E of 1.11, meaning he adds value at these prices rather than detraction. Billy Aprahamian’s yard is 1/2 over the last fortnight, running hot. The form of P21-22 shows a horse who competes, and being runner-up last time keeps the confidence up. The pulled-up effort is the flag, but that sits further back in the sequence now.

Ukantango tops the form figures according to the ratings, and Sean Bowen is a course specialist, but a ninth last time and 54 days off the track means fitness is a genuine question. At 11/2, the price reflects that uncertainty.

Selection: Le Gentleman at 6/4 (LiveScore Bet). Progressive profile, race-fit advantage, and flagged as the pick by the form book. The yard’s recent cold run is the only caveat.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksSunray Shadow โ€” Bravo Benefits Celebrations Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (3:18, Uttoxeter)
Odds: 10/11 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 10/11 Betfred, 10/11 LiveScore Bet)

Three wins from three completed starts, Harry Skelton in the saddle at a track where he converts at 28%, and a Dan Skelton yard running at 23% course-wide. The 10/11 price is not generous but it reflects genuine form, and in a four-runner novice contest you back your best horse rather than hunt value in the wrong place. Hat-tricks at Uttoxeter under the Skelton banner do not happen by accident.
