Warwick, Monday 4th May 2026: Tips and Selections
A six-race card at Warwick on good ground, and there are genuine angles to work with across the card. Alan King's yard is firing at 3/14 over the past fortnight, which is worth keeping in mind as his runners appear across the card. Fergal O'Brien also shows 4/20 to 4/25, a respectable strike rate for a big operation. Let's get into it.
2:40 Moore & Tibbits Family Fun Day Mares' Maiden Hurdle (2m, Good)
A 14-runner mares' maiden hurdle, and the market is dominated by Great Dance at 4/5 with Bet365. On RPR alone, the 5-year-old stands out: a rating of 122 and a top speed figure of 100 that leaves the rest of this field looking exposed. Chester Williams saddles her with Lorcan Williams in the plate, and while the trainer has no recent 14-day recorded runners, that RPR tells you what you need to know. A 9th on one of her starts hints at vulnerability, but against this quality of opposition on good ground, she ought to go close.
The each-way play in a competitive 14-runner field is Crystal Days Each-Way at 5/1 with William Hill. Ben Pauling's mare has a solid RPR of 113 and form figures of 342P2, showing she consistently finds the places. That second last time out is the key line. Three places at 1/5 odds makes her solid each-way value at this price.
Selection: Great Dance (Win) at 4/5 Bet365. Each-way play: Crystal Days at 5/1 William Hill (3 places, 1/5 odds).
3:15 Moore & Tibbits Solicitors Handicap Chase (2m, Good)
This is the race of the card to unpick. Eight runners, and the form of Irish Chorus is hard to ignore. Alan King's 7-year-old mare has won twice from her last three completed starts, including a win and a second in her most recent outings. An RPR of 125 matches the best in the field, Tom Bellamy takes the ride, and King's yard is running at 3/14 in the past fortnight. At 15/8 with William Hill or 7/4 with Bet365, she is a confident selection.
The most interesting each-way angle is Politacus Each-Way at 4/1 with Bet365 or William Hill. Fergal O'Brien's mare has an RPR of 126, the highest in the field on paper, and the Spotlight note is compelling: she lost a shoe when beaten 12 lengths at Stratford, and she gets a handy pull in the weights compared to Irish Chorus. O'Brien is hitting 4/25 at the moment. If she bounces back to her best here, this is a generous price. Three places at 1/5 odds gives you insurance in a competitive eight-runner field.
Selection: Irish Chorus (Win) at 15/8 William Hill. Each-way play: Politacus at 4/1 Bet365 (3 places, 1/5 odds).
4:25 M&T Solicitors In Warwick Handicap Chase (2m4f, Good)
Nine runners over two and a half miles, and the Spotlight on Imperial Bede says it plainly: still well handicapped on old exploits. Harry Cobden takes the ride for the Jonjo O'Neill yard, and while the stable is in a cold spell at 0/17 over the past fortnight, this horse's individual profile overrides that concern. Cheekpieces fitted for his last three starts, a win at Catterick among them, and a clear second at Haydock over this exact trip on good ground last time. He goes up just 3lb for that effort. The 9/4 available with Bet365 and William Hill is a fair price, not a screamer, but the form figures and going match are persuasive.
At 7/1 with Bet365 or William Hill, Another Folly Each-Way deserves consideration. Jane Williams's seven-year-old won at the second attempt over fences and ran four consecutive placed efforts after that. The 4-4-4-4 sequence is frustrating for punters who backed him to win, but in a nine-runner handicap with three places on offer at 1/5 odds, that kind of consistency is bankable. RPR of 113, and Ciaran Gethings rides.
Selection: Imperial Bede (Win) at 9/4 Bet365. Each-way play: Another Folly at 7/1 Bet365 (3 places, 1/5 odds).
Today's NAP
Odds: 15/8 โ William Hill (others: 7/4 Bet365, 2.94 Betfair Exchange)
Alan King's yard is in form at 3/14 over the past fortnight, Tom Bellamy is a reliable partner, and Irish Chorus arrives here with a win and a second from her last two completed starts. An RPR of 125 matches the best in the field, the good ground suits, and the form over this two-mile trip is consistent. At 15/8, she represents the most confident angle on the card and is taken to confirm herself the class act in this company.
