Warwick, Saturday 9 May 2026: Tips & Selections
A six-race card at Warwick on good ground, and while the fields are modest in size, there are some genuinely interesting angles to work through. The going suits horses who travel well on a quick surface, and the hunter chase finale throws up a fascinating battle between two in-form performers. Here are the selections.
6:07 โ Mike Mohan's 60th Birthday Maiden Hurdle (2m, 8 runners)
Selection: Kap De Cerisy (5/2, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)
Dan Skelton's yard has been in cracking form, firing at a 9/29 strike rate over the last fortnight, and this mare comes with serious point-to-point credentials. Two starts in Irish points, the second of which she won by eleven lengths at odds-on, then sold for ยฃ75,000. That price tag tells you exactly what the market thought of her. The hood and tongue tie suggest connections know she needs a bit of coaxing, but this is a quality yard who know how to introduce a horse like this. Good ground suits, the form reads well, and she's the classiest individual in the field.
Taranis Dubh (9/4) is the market leader and deserves respect after winning an 11-runner Irish point, but he was backed into odds-on for a Newton Abbot bumper and managed only third. Kap De Cerisy's point form is superior and Skelton's prep has been thorough. She's the value at the prices here.
7:07 โ Lewis Badges 1832 Handicap Hurdle (2m5f, 8 runners)
Selection: Three Pikes Each-Way (3/1 Boyle Sports, 11/4 Betfred / LiveScore Bet)
Henry Oliver's yard is having a quiet spell on paper, but Three Pikes has a clear profile to exploit here. He won his bumper in June last year and built on that when getting off the mark over hurdles at Stratford last month. Crucially, that win came over 2m2f on good ground, and this step up to 2m5f looks a natural progression for a staying type. The Spotlight flags that the longer trip should suit, and there's no reason to disagree. Oscar Palmer claims 7lb, which is a significant weight allowance in a field where the margins will be tight.
Kom Tu Voudras (2/1) is the jolly and Harry Cobden takes the ride, which is never a bad sign, but she won on heavy at Huntingdon and this good ground at Warwick is a very different test on her handicap debut. The market may be underestimating that question mark. Three Pikes is proven on this surface, proven at this class level, and moving up in trip in a race that sets up perfectly for him.
7:37 โ Open Hunters' Chase Series Final (3m, 4 runners)
Selection: Walkin Out (evens, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Four runners, evens the field, but this is not a coin flip. Walkin Out brings a profile that stands out significantly. Twelve wins in points is a remarkable tally, and she arrives here having beaten two rivals at Stafford Cross just thirteen days ago. The fitness is not in question. RPR of 112 is the highest in this field by some margin, and that figure was earned in a competitive environment.
Malinas Glory (13/8) has won twice in points last month and deserves respect, but he's meeting a mare who has been doing this consistently for longer and at a higher level. Good Source (9/2 BoyleSports, 4/1 LiveScore Bet) won a Fakenham maiden hunter chase last year and has point form to back it up, but Walkin Out's depth of experience and recent fitness edge her ahead. Evens is not a generous price, but it is a fair one for the most credentialled runner in the race.
Today's NAP
Odds: 5/2 โ Boyle Sports (others: 5/2 Betfred, 5/2 LiveScore Bet)
Dan Skelton's operation is firing at close to a 31% strike rate across the last fortnight, and this mare is the most exciting hurdling debutant on the card. An eleven-length point win at odds-on, a ยฃ75,000 sale price, and now a polished yard to bring her through. The good ground at Warwick suits, the hood and tie suggest the trainer has done his homework, and the opposition simply does not match up on raw form. Confident NAP.
