Werder Bremen vs Borussia Dortmund: Form, Odds & Betting Preview
Werder Bremen host Borussia Dortmund at the Weserstadion on Saturday afternoon, and on paper this is a mismatch. Bremen are 15th in the Bundesliga with 32 points and a goal difference of -21. Dortmund are second, on 70 points, and still fighting to cement their place above the chasing pack. The motivation gap alone is significant.
Form
Bremen have lost three of their last five, shipping nine goals in the process. The 1-3 home defeat to Augsburg is the one that stings most, conceding three at the Weserstadion against mid-table opposition. A point at Stuttgart shows they can compete away from home on a good day, but the 0-1 loss at Hoffenheim last time out confirmed this is a side drifting through the final weeks of the season with nothing left to play for other than survival mathematics.
Their leading scorer, Janse Stage, has 10 goals in 28 appearances this season but is currently listed as missing this fixture. That is a serious blow. Stage is their main creative threat and the only player in the squad who reliably turns half-chances into goals. Losing him alongside Friedl and Wรถber in defence makes Daniel Thioune’s preparations considerably more difficult.
Dortmund’s form is more interesting. Niko Kovaฤ’s side are inconsistent on the road, losing at both Mรถnchengladbach and Hoffenheim in recent weeks, but at home they have been sharp. The 4-0 dismantling of Freiburg stands out as a statement result. Travelling to Bremen, where away form has historically been tricky, they will need to be sharper than they were at Gladbach.
Head-to-Head
The head-to-head heavily favours Dortmund. They won 3-0 at the Signal Iduna Park in January 2026 and the last time Bremen won one of these fixtures in this run of five meetings is nowhere to be seen. The most recent game at the Weserstadion ended 0-0 in August 2024, which was the best Bremen could manage. Before that, Dortmund won 2-1 in Bremen back in March 2024. Bremen simply do not beat this Dortmund side.
News
The big story around Dortmund this week is the retirement of Niklas Sรผle at 30 following an injury scare. It is a significant moment for the club, but in terms of this Saturday’s fixture, Dortmund have no confirmed injury concerns. They should be travelling with a strong squad.
The Betting Angle
Stage missing is the biggest factor here. Bremen’s top scorer sitting out against one of the most potent attacks in the division makes a home win very hard to back at 3.65, even accounting for the marginal value in that price. Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy has 16 goals in 32 appearances this season and is the kind of striker who punishes exactly the sort of defensive fragility Bremen have been showing.
The Over 2.5 Goals at 1.4 is too short to offer real value. Dortmund can be contained on the road when the opposition sets up right, as Gladbach showed, and a depleted Bremen side might shut up shop. The under at 2.9 has a genuine case, but backing Dortmund to win at 2.00 is the cleanest angle here.
They are the better side, in better form at home and away when it matters, their key players are fit, and the head-to-head record backs the story up. Bremen without Stage, with three players missing and nothing riding on the result beyond survival pressure, are not going to turn this around at the Weserstadion.
Odds: 2.00 โ BoyleSports
Dortmund are the stronger side at every level: squad depth, form over the season, and head-to-head record. Bremen are without their top scorer in Stage and missing two defenders, which compounds an already leaky backline. Dortmund to make it a routine away win.
