Windsor, Monday 11 May 2026 — Good To Firm Tips

A seven-race evening card at Windsor on good to firm ground, and the conditions suit horses who want fast underfoot. Windsor’s tight, turning track rewards course form, and the sprint track in particular brings its own quirks. Three races stand out as worth targeting, and there is a clear NAP on the card.

5:42 — Fitzdares Restricted Novice Stakes (1m2f)

Selection: Fighter’s Spirit (evens, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Saeed bin Suroor’s yard has been ticking along at a respectable rate recently, and Fighter’s Spirit looks a proper betting proposition at even money for a novice at this level. His Beverley debut win 18 days ago reads better the more you look at it: he came from a long way back in a race run at a slow tempo, overcame clear greenness, and still picked off Cape Fear close home. That is a serious piece of form for a first-time-out horse.

Yes, Cape Fear gets a 7lb turnaround today for half a length, and Andrew Balding’s yard runs a strong hand with two representatives. But Fighter’s Spirit is the less exposed of the two and was still learning his trade at Beverley. Bin Suroor horses rarely run twice without improvement, and 1m2f on good to firm at Windsor suits exactly what this horse showed he is capable of. My Mate Roger is not without claims either, but the step to 1m2f on his blue-chip pedigree is a risk given he is by Blue Point. Take the favourite.

6:17 — Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap (6f)

Selection: Change Sings (4/1, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)

Eve Johnson Houghton’s yard has a decent recent strike rate at 3 from 26, not spectacular, but Change Sings is the kind of horse who carries his trainer’s runners with genuine purpose. Crucially, he is effective over course and distance and the handicapper has left him on a mark that still looks workable. Two solid runs in defeat this spring, including a sixth at Newbury last month where the draw did him no favours, give this campaign shape and direction.

Getting on for two years since his last win will put some punters off, but the form has held up and his TS this spring is consistent with a horse who is primed for a big run. At 4/1 in a field of 11 on a track where he has won before, this is fair value for a sprint handicap. Three places at 1/5 odds also makes each-way interest worthwhile.

Also consider: Diligently at 7/2 (Boyle Sports) has a C&D win off this exact mark last August and faster ground suits, per the spotlight. Clive Cox runs a professional outfit. If the market shortens him further, he is clearly involved.

7:47 — Rendells Are Hammers Handicap (1m)

Selection: Midnight Rodeo Each-Way (7/1, Boyle Sports)

George Scott has been in notably strong form, landing 6 from 21 runners in the past 14 days. That yard stat alone demands attention, and Midnight Rodeo is the horse they have chosen Tom Marquand for. That booking carries weight.

His 2yo form tells the story of a horse who found his feet late and improved dramatically once stepped up in trip and moved into nurseries. Back-to-back wins at Kempton over a mile and Wolverhampton over 9.4f showed a horse who stays and who gallops. He goes up 7lb for those wins, fair enough, but he enters this race unexposed at three-year-old level. The step from AW nurseries to turf handicaps is a proper ask, but the trainer is firing and the jockey is among the sharpest in the country.

At 7/1 with four places on offer in a 13-runner field, the each-way case is solid. Back him to place at minimum, and do not be surprised if he goes very close to winning outright.

Today’s NAP

Fighter’s Spirit — Fitzdares Restricted Novice Stakes (5:42, Windsor)
Odds: Evens — Boyle Sports / Betfred (others: 10/11 LiveScore Bet)

Bin Suroor’s horse won first time out at Beverley in a manner that screamed improvement to come: greenness throughout, slow pace to contend with, came from the back and still got up. He is less exposed than anything else in this novice and the yard rarely sends a horse out second time without having done significant work at home. Good to firm at Windsor over 1m2f is no obstacle. Even money is a workable price for a horse with a higher ceiling than the market is giving him credit for.
