Windsor, Monday 8 June 2026: Evening Tips
A decent eight-race card at Windsor this evening, with showers pushing the going into good to soft territory. That going change matters enormously across this card, separating the genuine soft-ground performers from those who merely tolerate it. Three races to focus on: the opening sprint, the novice stakes over a mile and two, and the fillies’ novice over six furlongs. Get the going angle right and there is money to be made.
7:39 Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap (5f, Good To Soft)
Selection: Roach Power Each-Way (11/2, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
This is a race where the going forecast does the talking for you. Several of the principals here have form caveats tied directly to quicker ground, and the showers arriving this afternoon could make this a stamping ground for Roach Power.
The seven-year-old recorded five wins in 2025, all over this exact five-furlong trip, and crucially those victories came on good, heavy AND soft. He handles a range of surfaces and Windsor’s conventional track should suit him far better than the awkward configuration at Goodwood last time, where he reportedly blew up early. The Spotlight notes he shot his bolt over a furlong out at Goodwood, but the track excuses that effort convincingly.
Look at what is against him. Regal Envoy is the 11/4 market leader and has a solid C&D record, but the form note is explicit: best form on good or quicker, rarely asked on slower surfaces. The going softening is a direct threat to his chance. Trefor has won over this course and distance but the form note is equally stark: marked preference for good or quicker ground. Rocking Ends is another with a soft ground query. Gaeli switches to cheekpieces from blinkers and showed smart Italian form on varied ground, but has not convinced off a 6lb higher mark here and over this C&D.
With a fair portion of this nine-runner field owning ground concerns in softening conditions, and with three each-way places on offer at 1/5 odds, Roach Power at 11/2 looks the play. Michael Wigham’s yard is quiet of late, but the horse himself holds the key form angle.
7:09 Install Electrical Contractors Limited Novice Stakes (1m2f, Good To Soft)
Selection: Cyrano De Bergerac (13/8, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
A wide-open novice with plenty of debutants, but the formbook gives us a clear angle. Cyrano De Bergerac already has experience on an artificial surface at Lingfield over this exact trip, chasing home an impressive favourite and grabbing second on the line after being briefly outpaced. That run suggests he is both honest and will improve for the outing.
The key stat here is the trainer angle. John and Thady Gosden operate at a 32% win rate at Windsor from 81 runners, with an A/E of 1.16. That is not just numbers: it tells you the yard actively targets this course and hits at above-expectation rate. Add William Buick in the saddle, who also knows Windsor well with a 19% strike rate here, and the operational setup is solid. The form behind Cyrano at Lingfield should be treated carefully given it was a modest maiden, but his staying-on effort late in that race strongly hints the step up in trip suits him, as does this softer surface for a Palace Pier colt with an AW background.
Asterial at 4/1 is the main rival, a hugely expensive Sea The Stars yearling making his debut for George Scott, whose 2yos and 3yos have been running well. The market can and should be watched for any late move. Zachary Hickes at 5/1 is interesting: showed real ability on AW debut at Kempton in December 2024 but has not been seen since, which is always a concern. Cuff It showed an encouraging debut at Newmarket and the step up to 1m2f looks a help, but he faces a proper opponent in Cyrano.
Cyrano De Bergerac is the bet at 13/8, with the going, trainer stats, jockey booking, and genuine Lingfield form all pointing in one direction.
5:39 O’Malley EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (6f, Good To Soft)
Selection: Glorious Game (10/3, Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Eleven debutants and one filly with a run under her belt. The market here is asking you to do some pedigree homework, and the form angles reward it.
Glorious Game, by Pinatubo, is closely related to Feliciana De Vega, a Group 3 winner rated 111 at a mile to a mile and one, and Matsuri, a useful sort rated 117. The dam herself won over a mile in Listed company. This is an exceptional family for an evening novice and Hugo Palmer’s yard has been in outstanding form with its juveniles this season, posting eight wins from 36 runners over the last 14 days. That is a trainer firing hard and placing horses accurately.
Oisin Murphy takes the ride. His Windsor figures of 19% do not shout a course specialist, but on an evening like this where you are essentially backing pedigree, trainer form and jockey quality on a debut runner, those factors align firmly.
Bymiddaytomorrow is the only runner with previous experience, but she finished last of six here five weeks ago on quicker ground, so that form reads poorly on this surface. The Richard Spencer runner Motown Filly has a class pedigree and Spencer’s Windsor record is excellent at 19% wins with an A/E of 1.39, so she deserves market respect, but the yard has not struck with a two-year-old yet this term.
Glorious Game at 10/3 is taken to show enough on debut for Palmer and Murphy to open her account.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 13/8 โ Boyle Sports (others: 13/8 Betfred, 13/8 LiveScore Bet)
The combination of a genuine experience edge over a field of debutants, John and Thady Gosden’s exceptional 32% Windsor strike rate, William Buick in the saddle, and a run profile that suits both the distance and the good to soft ground makes this selection stand out from the card. Cyrano De Bergerac was briefly outpaced at Lingfield before staying on strongly into second, which is exactly the kind of debut you back up at a track and trainer combination that keeps delivering. At 13/8, this is fair rather than generous, but the confidence in the angle is high.
