Windsor, Monday 22 June 2026: Tips and Analysis

A seven-race card at Windsor on a sunny evening with good to firm ground throughout. The tight, turning track suits horses that can be ridden positively, and the fast surface will put a premium on speed and class. Three races stand out for punters: the sprint series opener, a fascinating newcomers’ maiden, and an intriguing middle-distance handicap. Here is where the money goes.

7:17 โ€” Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap (5f)

Selection: Mesaafi (3/1, Boyle Sports / LiveScore Bet)

Mesaafi won at this exact track last time out, doing it the hard way after meeting trouble in running, and still got up by a neck. That is the kind of performance that shows a horse is in form rather than fluking a result. The handicapper has raised him just two pounds for that success, which looks very manageable given the manner of it. He handles five to six furlongs on a sound surface, and today’s good to firm conditions are exactly what connections will have been hoping for. The addition of blinkers for the first time is a slight unknown, but yards only tend to fit headgear when they think it will sharpen a horse up, not slow it down. Ross Burdon has had two winners from just four runners in the last fortnight. That is a stable firing.

The dangers are real. Glamorous Breeze ran third at Goodwood off this exact mark last time, and trainer Christopher Mason’s Windsor strike rate of 15% with an A/E of 1.33 is the strongest number on the course stats sheet. She is not to be dismissed. Dream Composer at 9/2 catches the eye too with the cheekpieces going on for the first time and Tony Carroll having sent out 11 winners from 52 runners over the past two weeks. But Mesaafi’s course form and the confidence implied by the blinkers application makes him the call at a fair price.

6:15 โ€” British Stallion Studs EBF Newcomers’ Maiden Stakes (6f)

Selection: Flann Sunna Each-Way (9/2, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)

Fifteen runners and all of them unraced makes this as much an educated guess as anything else, but pedigree and stable backing provide the clearest map in a field like this. Flann Sunna is a 200,000 guineas Blue Point colt, and the dam was very smart at six furlongs as a two-year-old. This is a horse bred to be precocious, built for exactly this type of race. Simon and Ed Crisford have a 21% Windsor strike rate, the highest of any yard in the course stats, and an A/E sitting at 1.01 confirms those wins are coming at fair prices rather than in banker-odds shots. The yard clearly knows this track.

The trainer’s last 14 days read just 1/26, so it is not a stable at peak momentum right now, but the investment in this colt speaks for itself. At 9/2 in a maiden with no form to separate the field, that price looks generous for a well-bred, well-backed debutant from a course-friendly yard. Each-way at three places makes plenty of sense in a field of 15.

Minzaal Time (13/2) is the other one worth including on the e/w shortlist. A 135,000 pound Minzaal half-brother to a sharp six-furlong performer, he has the speed credentials and Rossa Ryan rides, a jockey who wins at 16% at Windsor. The Crisford angle is stronger, but Minzaal Time can fill a place at the very least.

7:50 โ€” Carrington Wealth Management Handicap (1m3ยฝf)

Selection: Rumbustious (3/1, Boyle Sports / LiveScore Bet)

Six runners, small field, and the race looks tailored for a stayer who gets better with distance. Rumbustious ran his best race of the campaign last time at Thirsk over twelve furlongs, hitting the line with his best work coming late. That closing style is exactly what you want in a horse stepping into a twelve-furlong-plus test on a track that does not punish hold-up horses as brutally as some. He is on the same mark he ran off at Thirsk, which means the handicapper has left him alone, and the good to firm ground is within his comfort zone.

Billy Loughnane takes the ride, and his 15% Windsor strike rate is consistent across a decent sample of 87 rides. Charlie Johnston has five winners from 48 runners over the last fortnight, a steady enough clip from a big yard.

Astrological at 11/4 with Betfred is respected. Consistent in a short career, effective at the trip, and Marco Ghiani is a strong booking. But the lack of turf form is a question mark and Rumbustious offers better value given the closing style suits a track where the pace often quickens late.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksMesaafi โ€” Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap (7:17, Windsor)
Odds: 3/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 10/3 Betfred, 3/1 LiveScore Bet)

Won at Windsor last time doing it the hard way, the two-pound rise looks lenient for the manner of that win, and the good to firm conditions are ideal. A yard with two winners from four runners in the last fortnight, blinkers added for the first time as a sharpener rather than a plea, and course form that stands out in this field. The 3/1 available represents genuine each-way value in a nine-runner handicap, but this is backed to win.
