Wolverhampton (AW) Tips: Friday 8 May 2026

A seven-race card on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton, with Standard going across the board. Three races stand out for punters with an angle to play. The fields are small tonight, so place terms are tight, but there are still selections worth getting stuck into. Here is where the value lies.

6:30 โ€” Download The At The Races App Restricted Maiden Fillies' Stakes (6f, 2yo Fillies)

Selection: Leucothea (11/10, Bet365 / William Hill)

Richard Hannon's yard has been busy enough lately, clocking 6 winners from 48 runners over the past fortnight, and this filly looks the class act in a straightforward six-runner field. She went off favourite at Bath on debut over 5.5f on firm ground, was slightly slowly away, and still finished second of seven. That form has substance behind it. She now steps up half a furlong onto the Polytrack, and the switch to artificial ground looks a logical move given her half-sister Wateen was a 5f AW winner.

Miss Lizzy has course experience but her fourth at Redcar was moderate and she does not scream out as a 6f horse. Freedom Flame has an appealing pedigree on paper, and Richard Hughes did have a filly win on debut at Windsor on Monday, so keep an eye on the market. But Leucothea already has a run in her legs and was clearly better than she showed at Bath. She should take the step forward this surface and trip demands.

7:30 โ€” Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Maiden Fillies' Stakes (1mยฝf, 3yo Fillies)

Selection: Withtearsinmyeyes (9/4, Bet365)

Jack Channon's yard is in decent nick with 5 winners from 19 runners over the last two weeks, and this filly arrives with the best form in the book. She went off at 12/1 on her Nottingham debut over 1m on good ground last month and split two previous winners to finish second of 12. That is a solid piece of form in a maiden context, and the step up to 1m and a half furlongs looks like it could suit a filly who was finishing her race off strongly.

The main market rival is Seet, trained by the Gosdens and ridden by Robert Havlin. She showed greenness at Newbury but there is clearly ability there, and her half-sister Kalpana was a top-class performer on both turf and Polytrack. She could easily take a big step forward here. Bintwafaa is an eyecatching newcomer, half-sister to St Leger winner Jan Brueghel, but the hood on debut is a question mark and she is unproven.

Withtearsinmyeyes has already done it under racecourse conditions. The Polytrack over a longer trip should not be an issue, and at 9/4 she represents fair value against a field where the market leader is still learning her trade. She gets the vote.

8:00 โ€” Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Handicap (7f, 3yo)

Selection: Autumn Affair (evens, Bet365 / William Hill)

Five runners after the non-runner, and this looks a relatively simple race to dissect. Autumn Affair is trained by Harry Eustace, who has had a quiet spell with only 1 winner from 19 runners lately, but this filly does not need the yard to be flying. She won her handicap debut at Lingfield over 6f on Polytrack in March, and the extra furlong tonight suits on pedigree. The 3lb rise for that win is hardly punishing.

Pints In Peace won this course and distance in a maiden back in March and has shown consistency throughout his career on the AW. He is 4/1 and will not be far away, running his race as reliably as ever. Arctic Wind is making his handicap debut after seven months off and a gelding operation. The market will tell the story there, but he is an unknown quantity on this surface and over this trip.

Autumn Affair is a proven handicapper on Polytrack already. The step up in distance is the one move that looks likely to bring improvement. Evens is tight but fair for a horse going the right way.

Withtearsinmyeyes โ€” Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Maiden Fillies' Stakes (7:30, Wolverhampton)
Odds: 9/4 โ€” Bet365 (others: 2.96 Betfair Exchange, 19/10 7Bet)

The best form on show in a small but competitive fillies' maiden. She ran to an RPR of 95 on debut, splitting previous winners at Nottingham over 1m on good ground, and now steps up to a trip that will suit her stamina-laden profile. Jack Channon's yard has been in solid form over the past fortnight, and with the Tapeta at Wolverhampton rewarding horses that stay, this filly has every chance of going one better and getting off the mark tonight.
