Wolverhampton (AW) Tips: Monday 11 May 2026

A Monday evening card at Wolverhampton under the lights, six races on the Tapeta surface riding Standard. Not the deepest card of the season, but there are angles worth playing here, particularly in the 11-runner handicap where the market looks exploitable, and a couple of the juvenile races where yard form points clearly in one direction.

Celestra sets the standard here and the 8/11 reflects that comfortably. The Gosden yard is firing at 10/38 over the past fortnight, Oisin Murphy takes the ride, and her form figures of 22-2 flatter to deceive only slightly: the two horses she finished behind that summer have advertised the form well since. She bolted up at Beverley last month once the penny dropped, and while this is an AW debut, she looks primed for a step forward. The trip suits, the standard going suits, and a confident yard does not send Murphy to Wolverhampton on a Monday for the exercise.

The interesting each-way play at a bigger price is Musical Accord Each-Way at 8/1 with Boyle Sports or Betfred. The Ralph Beckett yard also runs She Commands here, and the stable has 5/33 in the past 14 days, so they arrive in decent nick. Musical Accord cost 350,000gns as a yearling, missed the break badly from a wide stall at Newbury last time, and the switch to the AW with a cleaner draw should transform the picture. Beckett does not spend that sort of money on a dud, and the market underestimates her at this price.

Selection: Celestra (8/11, Boyle Sports/Betfred)

Wave Rock is the one to be on here. She won over this course and distance back in February off a mark 3lb lower than tonight, and that run should have put her right for a return to Tapeta after pulling her way out of contention on turf last time. Crucially, John Butler sends her here with Oisin Murphy booked, and that partnership is 11-36 together, a strike-rate that demands attention in a race like this. The 3/1 with Boyle Sports and Betfred is a fair price but not generous enough to go each-way in a race of this nature.

The sprinkle of interest elsewhere falls on Crafter Each-Way at 8/1 (Boyle Sports, LiveScore Bet). An 8-year-old who has won twice at this course and distance, the blinkers have sharpened him up and a slow start cost him here exactly a month ago. Billy Loughnane keeps the ride and the yard, while not in rampant form, knows this horse well. He tends to get the job done when the breaks go his way. Each-way terms over three places at 1/5 make this a manageable punt.

Book Of Life also catches the eye at 6/1 for each-way purposes. Usually gives his running round here, arrives in form, and the Spotlight flags the each-way claims explicitly. The concern is settling over the longer trip.

Selection: Wave Rock (3/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred)

George Scott’s yard has been in cracking form, running at 6/21 over the past fortnight including with juveniles. Emerald Bay Each-Way at 8/1 (Boyle Sports, Betfred, LiveScore Bet) is well-bred enough, and a gelded operation at this early stage of his career hints the yard have been patient and purposeful with him. The outside stall is not ideal over an easy 6f, and that is the legitimate knock, but at 8/1 in a 13-runner maiden with three places paid at 1/5 odds, the each-way case stacks up with a yard operating at the top of their game.

Richard Hughes also cannot be ignored with Parading at 9/1. Hughes has a fine record with 2-year-olds on the AW, the debut excuses are legitimate (missed the break, green), and the AW switch regularly transforms juveniles out of that yard. The draw is tough, admittedly, but the price compensates.

The market will firm up Indian Land at 4/1 for Beckett and Rossa Ryan, having been well fancied before running below expectations at Leicester. The yard was noted as disappointed with that effort, which suggests they know more than we do. He could easily go off favourite and should not be dismissed.

Selection: Emerald Bay Each-Way (8/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred/LiveScore Bet)

Today’s NAP

Wave Rock โ€” Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week Handicap
Odds: 3/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 3/1 Betfred, 3/1 LiveScore Bet)

A course-and-distance winner off a mark just 3lb lower than tonight, returning to Tapeta after a turf run she was never suited by. The key stat is Oisin Murphy’s 11-36 partnership record with trainer John Butler: that is not a jockey booking you make unless you think you are winning. Standard going on a surface she has already conquered, a solid 72 RPR in a competitive but not brutal 0-75 heat, and a clear form angle. This is the card’s most straightforward win bet.
