Wolverhampton (AW), Thursday 30 July 2026: Tips & Analysis
A midweek Wolverhampton card under the lights, eight races on the Tapeta, standard going throughout. Three races get the full treatment today: the opening 5f handicap, the 1m1ยฝf maiden, and the 2yo six-furlong maiden. The yard stats at this track are worth leaning on hard, and there are a couple of angles here that stand up to scrutiny.
4:35 โ Book To Stay Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Handicap Stakes (5f, Standard)
Selection: Havin A Flyer โ 9/4 Boyle Sports, Betfred
This is the standout bet of the day. Havin A Flyer arrives here in the form of her life, having won last time out and placed in three of her four starts before that. The sequence reads 843321 and that trajectory is pointing in one direction only. Trainer Rebecca Menzies has sent out one winner from nine runners over the past fortnight, which is modest, but the horse herself is doing the talking right now.
She gets in off 133lbs, which is the concern at a tight track like Wolverhampton over five furlongs, but stall two is a workable draw and she has the distance and going ticked off. The market has her at 9/4 and that feels about right for a horse at the peak of her form cycle, but it is absolutely the value call in this field.
The main danger is My Mate Mackley at 11/4. Consistent placings, Pat Cosgrave keeps the faith, and the lower weight of 128lbs helps. But he has not won in this sequence despite multiple placing efforts and the form of Havin A Flyer simply outpoints him right now.
Sands Of Seve at 9/1 caught the eye two starts back when runner-up, but the sixth last time suggests that effort was a blip rather than a trend, and ten days between runs is quick for a horse that needs to find more.

Selection: Bintward โ 15/8 Boyle Sports, Betfred
Roger Varian sends Bintward here on debut and his yard strikes at 25% at Wolverhampton from nearly 450 runners. That is a serious sample size and tells you these horses are prepared properly for this surface. Varian does not waste a trip here, and a debutante from his yard in a small field maiden at this price deserves serious consideration.
The race is dominated by three unexposed or lightly-raced types from the top yards. Pyramid at 6/4 carries the Gosden seal of approval and Robert Havlin, who knows this track well, rides. The Gosdens fire at 26% here. That is the most obvious threat.
Chimes Of Thunder at 2/1 for William Haggas has form figures of 6-253 which shows progression, and Haggas hits at 21% at Wolves. Harry Davies takes the ride. She is far from disgraced in this but the lack of a win on the board and a moderate six-furlong effort at one point in that sequence raises doubts over whether 1m1ยฝf on the AW is truly her bag.
Bintward at 15/8 from Varian’s yard, on debut, at a track where the trainer knows how to place a horse, is the call. Slight value over the Haggas runner.
Each-way players should note that Walking On Stars Each-Way at 10/1 Boyle Sports for Sir Mark Prescott is worth a small interest at those odds. Prescott strikes at 21% here and this filly, with a single start reading 5, has the breeding and yard to go forward. Each-way returns three places at 1/5 odds in an 8-runner field.

Selection: Location Location Each-Way โ 5/1 Boyle Sports, Betfred, LiveScore Bet
Supreme Star is the odds-on favourite at 4/5 and the market clearly expects a Botti-trained winner here. Three winners from 13 runners in the past fortnight for Marco Botti suggests the yard is firing, and the form figure of 62 shows this colt has been competitive. Hard to argue against at face value.
But 4/5 in a 12-runner two-year-old maiden on the AW is not a bet. It is a liability. James Fanshawe’s Location Location at 5/1 is the each-way play. This gelding has form figures of 532, meaning he has been placed three times in his last three starts. He is knocking on the door. Fanshawe sent out three winners from 19 runners in the past fortnight, a 16% strike rate that tells you the yard is ticking along nicely.
In a 12-runner field with three places paid at 1/5 odds, Location Location at 5/1 each-way offers genuine value. A horse consistently finishing in the places, from an in-form trainer, at a price that makes the each-way investment worthwhile. The favourite can win the race; this is about the place return.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 9/4 โ Boyle Sports (others: 9/4 Betfred, 9/4 LiveScore Bet)
Four placings in five starts before winning last time out. The form trajectory is clear and the handicapper has not yet had time to squeeze the life out of this mark. Stall two over five furlongs on standard Tapeta suits, the distance is ticked off, and in a field where the next market leader has been consistently placed but refuses to win, Havin A Flyer is the form horse at a fair price. Back her to follow up.
