Worcester, Friday 10 July 2026: Tips & Analysis

A summer jumps card at Worcester under partly cloudy skies and good ground. Three races on the card worth digging into, with the novice hurdle top of the bill courtesy of a Dan Skelton hotpot. The handicap chase looks the most competitive puzzle, and the handicap hurdle throws up a fascinating clash between the ratings leader and a horse in four-from-five form. Good ground at Worcester suits horses who travel fluently and jump clean, so course specialists get a real edge here.

6:06 โ€” Amodil Group Novices’ Hurdle (2m4f, Good)

Selection: Kiwi De Cotte โ€” 8/11 Betfred

Dan Skelton sends out Kiwi De Cotte with Harry Skelton in the saddle, and the combination of trainer and jockey running at this level in summer makes this a calculated strike rather than a routine runner. Skelton has been in serious form over the past fortnight, striking at 48% (13/27), and Harry Skelton posts a 20% course record at Worcester from 370 rides. Kiwi De Cotte’s form reads 1P1-P1, three wins in there alongside two pulled-ups, which can look alarming, but the wins tell their own story. The horse knows how to find the line when right, and pitching up on good ground over 2m4f at Worcester with Skelton aboard suggests this is a day when connections believe he is.

Yellow Card at 9/4 with Sean Bowen is an obvious danger. Mickey Bowen’s yard has been ticking along nicely (6/25 over the fortnight), and Bowen is the standout jockey at this course with an A/E of 1.07. A rating-figure second last time is solid novice form. But Kiwi De Cotte at odds-on is still workable in a nine-runner field when the Skelton machine is firing at nearly 50% over the fortnight.

5:35 โ€” Amodil Group Handicap Chase (2m7f, Good)

Selection: Getaway Vic โ€” 2/1 Boyle Sports & Betfred

James Bowen rides for the Mickey Bowen yard, and that combination has produced four wins from 16 over the past 14 days. More pertinently, James Bowen is one of the most effective jockeys at Worcester on record, striking at 22% from 151 rides with an A/E of 1.25. That is a genuinely exceptional number and not a small sample.

Getaway Vic’s form of 21/422 reads beautifully for this type of race. Three seconds and a win in recent starts, proven over today’s trip and going, and race-fit after just 21 days. He has not been winning lately, but he has been running into horses and staying honest. That sort of reliable placing record in a seven-runner field on good ground is precisely the foundation for a win when the handicapper has not had cause to raise him. At 2/1, this is the most straightforward price on the card and the value sits in the reliability of the angle.

Ridin Solo at 4/1 is the danger. Two thirds and a second from four starts tells the same story of a horse who places well without converting. Always Busy at 7/2 carries fitness questions after a fall and a 34-day break. Edgewell won last time but sits bottom on the figures and Bowen on Getaway Vic is the cleaner angle.

6:41 โ€” Amodil Group Handicap Hurdle (2m4f, Good)

Selection: American Mike โ€” 9/2 Boyle Sports & LiveScore Bet

Top-rated on 150 and a runner-up last time, American Mike sets the form standard in this seven-runner handicap. Olly Murphy’s yard has been operating at 4/13 over the past fortnight, and Murphy posts a 21% course strike rate at Worcester. Tom Hutsby comes in with a 10lb claim, which softens the weight burden meaningfully in a race where American Mike carries the most pounds.

The form reads 921-52: a win, a runner-up, one poor effort to note. Proven over 2m4f and good ground, the horse is proven exactly where he needs to be. Our Guide at 6/5 is the market leader and arrives with four wins from five, which is impossible to ignore, but a rating of 121 leaves him sixth of seven on the figures. Miss Maverick at 7/1 is back to form and cannot be dismissed, but American Mike at 9/2 with the ratings edge and proven course trip credentials is the value play in a small field.

Only two places on offer at 1/4 odds in a seven-runner contest, so this is a win-only recommendation at 9/2.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksGetaway Vic โ€” Amodil Group Handicap Chase (05:35, Worcester)
Odds: 2/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 2/1 Betfred, 2/1 LiveScore Bet)

James Bowen is simply exceptional at Worcester, an A/E of 1.25 from 151 rides is as good as it gets for a course jockey profile, and Mickey Bowen’s yard has been in form. Getaway Vic’s placing record in this type of contest is consistent and reliable, he handles today’s trip and ground, and his 21-day return suggests freshness rather than fatigue. The handicapper has left him on a mark that looks fair rather than punishing. At 2/1 in a seven-runner field, this is the NAP of the day without hesitation.
