📅 22 July 2026 Horse Racing

Worcester, Wednesday 22 July 2026 — Tips & Preview

A mid-week summer jumping card at Worcester, and one worth picking through carefully. Good ground suits the more athletic types, and with three of the four races featured being either handicaps or novice events on a sharp track, there is genuine profit potential if you know where to look. Sean Bowen and James Bowen both carry excellent course records here, and any Olly Murphy runner with Sean in the saddle deserves extra respect.

2:25 — Land O Plums Clives Of Copthorne Handicap Chase (2m7f)

Selection: Tiger Orchid Each-Way at 9/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

The headline act on paper is Regal Renaissance, who arrives on a three-timer, but the comment data is honest: she ranks only fifth on figures in a field of nine, and turning back up in 17 days against deeper opposition for a yard running at 2/17 in the last fortnight. That sequence will end at some point, and this looks a likely landing spot for the correction.

Tiger Orchid at 9/1 is the smarter play. The Stuart Edmunds yard has been quiet lately but this 11-year-old is the definition of a consistent mud-and-good-ground performer: a winner two starts back, and the form book shows a string of places around that. The expert comment specifically highlights his consistency as the angle, and he has previous form over this trip and today’s going. At 9/1 for a horse that rarely runs a bad race, that is a price worth taking.

Court In A Storm is interesting underneath at 6/1 with Tom Bellamy aboard. He rates a touch above his official mark and has been placed four times without winning, but the handicapper has him on a workable weight. Worth a small saver each-way.

  • NAP Shortlist: Tiger Orchid (9/1 EW)
  • Saver: Court In A Storm (6/1 EW)

3:00 — Colin Jones Memorial Maiden Hurdle Div I (2m)

Selection: Iwanttobreakfree at 5/6 (Boyle Sports / LiveScore Bet)

No apologies for siding with the market leader here. Dan Skelton knows this track better than most, 18% win rate across 382 runners, and Harry Skelton has a 20% strike rate at Worcester from 375 rides. When that combination lines up in a maiden hurdle with a relatively unexposed horse, you take the price and move on.

Iwanttobreakfree is form-tuned, having placed in both starts over hurdles with a 2 and a 3 to his name. The form reads like a horse building experience before landing a maiden, and this is the moment. The 5/6 is not a monster price, but in a ten-runner maiden with nothing else in the race showing obvious class angles, it represents fair money for a banker-quality selection.

Faithful Guardian at 15/2 deserves a mention. Donald McCain’s yard is quietly consistent and the form figures of 28-36 show a horse that keeps trying. If Iwanttobreakfree underperforms, this is your save.

  • Selection: Iwanttobreakfree (5/6)
  • Alternative: Faithful Guardian (15/2)

3:30 — Colin Jones Memorial Maiden Hurdle Div II (2m)

Selection: Bound For Glory at 4/1 (Boyle Sports / LiveScore Bet)

Penzance opens at evens and will attract the money, trained by John Joseph Hanlon with form figures of 3-422. Consistent, yes, but the trainer’s last 14 days read 0/25. That is a yard stone cold at the moment, and laying into a short favourite trained by a trainer in a barren run goes against every instinct of value betting.

Bound For Glory at 4/1 is the selection. Form figures of 44-13 show a horse improving sharply, winning last time and placed before that. The trainer Robert Stephens is a small operation but the horse arrives in form and is priced generously relative to his recent run. Ciaran Gethings keeps it simple and this is a straightforward each-way proposition in a race where the jolly looks vulnerable.

Earnest Belief at 5/1 is a credible alternative. Donald McCain’s yard fired a winner from 11 in the last fortnight, and form of 3-433 shows a consistent if not spectacular profile. Worth including in any each-way combination.

  • Selection: Bound For Glory (4/1)
  • Alternative: Earnest Belief (5/1)

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksTiger Orchid — Land O Plums Handicap Chase (2:25, Worcester)
Odds: 9/1 — Boyle Sports (others: 9/1 Betfred, 9/1 LiveScore Bet)

The consistent profile of this horse is precisely what you want in a summer handicap chase. A winner two starts back, a string of placed efforts either side, and the expert form comment singles him out for exactly that reason. Regal Renaissance gets the headlines on the hat-trick bid but arrives on a short turnaround for a yard 2/17 in the last fortnight, and Tiger Orchid is rated to beat her at three times the price. Good ground suits, the trip is familiar, and 9/1 is a generous offer for a horse that simply keeps turning up.
