Worcester, Wednesday 19 August 2026: Tips and Analysis

Worcester’s summer card serves up three races worth your attention on a Good surface that should suit slick jumpers. The field sizes are modest in the chase, which limits each-way interest there, but the two novice hurdle qualifiers carry 12 and 15 runners respectively, so there is plenty of each-way value to exploit at the right prices. The yard in sharpest form across this card belongs to James Owen, whose 9/40 strike rate over the last 14 days is outstanding, and Sean Bowen continues to be the man to follow round this track, hitting 22% here with an A/E of 1.09.

6:03 โ€” CopyBet Support Safer Gambling Mares’ Maiden Hurdle (2m, Good)

Fifteen runners in a mares’ maiden hurdle is a wide-open affair, and the form figures alone suggest no certainty. Ben Pauling runs at a 18% clip at Worcester and his filly Elated is the market leader at 7/2 with Boyle Sports and LiveScore Bet. The 4/1 with Betfred is available too. Consistent without winning, she has finished third or better in four of her six starts, and that record of grinding out places is admirable. The worry is that 4/1 in a 15-runner maiden asks you to take a short price about a horse that has not yet found the knack of winning.

At a bigger price, Datstheholyallofit Each-Way is the play. Trainer Patrick Neville has been in fine nick, striking at 2/11 over the last 14 days, and this five-year-old mare comes here off the back of a straightforward win last time, posted a couple of placed efforts before that, and lines up in a race that looks beatable. The 13/2 available with Boyle Sports is the best of the boards and represents clear each-way value in a 15-runner field paying three places at 1/5. Brian Hughes riding is a further plus, a jockey who does not waste journeys to smaller tracks unless connections are hopeful.

Selection: Datstheholyallofit, 13/2 Boyle Sports

6:38 โ€” CopyBet Novices’ Hurdle (2m4f, Good)

This 12-runner novices’ hurdle is the race of the day and it is genuinely competitive at the head of the market. Gordon Elliott’s Newbrook Diamond at 11/4 arrives on the back of two wins from his last two starts and Sean Bowen, the course’s top jockey by A/E, takes the ride. Elliott hits 27% at Worcester, the highest of any trainer on this card. That combination is dangerous.

However, the value angle points firmly at Handmedownastar. Harry Cobden is the course’s leading jockey by win percentage at 23% and an A/E of 0.99 tells you the market often underestimates him here. This gelding won last time out and his form string of 2132-1 shows a horse climbing the form ladder at the right time. Trainer Nick Scholfield has had a runner in the last 14 days and the 3/1 with Boyle Sports and LiveScore Bet looks fair rather than generous, but the horse is arriving in the best nick of his hurdling career and has the stamina for 2m4f on Good ground.

Do not completely dismiss Road To Wembley at 7/2 either. Olly Murphy has a 21% strike rate at Worcester and this horse’s form of 21-1 is compact and progressive. Murphy’s yard is quiet over the last 14 days, which is a minor flag, but the horse himself ran well fresh last time.

Selection: Handmedownastar, 3/1 Boyle Sports and LiveScore Bet

5:02 โ€” CopyBet BOG Now Handicap Chase (2m7f, Good)

Only six runners in the opening chase, so each-way betting at 1/4 two places is not particularly exciting. This becomes a win-only race for most punters.

Smugglers Haven is the obvious play at 10/3. The form comment is clear: she has winning form at today’s distance and going, two wins from her last five starts, and the only query is 43 days off the track. Sara Bradstock does not send mares to summer handicap chases without purpose, and Lily Bradstock’s claim helps at the weights. She is the most straightforwardly reliable profile in the field.

The market favourite Muskerry Rock at 6/4 is hard to oppose on form, two wins and two seconds in his last four starts, but the weight of 166lbs and the fact that his figures rank him fifth of six on RPR give you pause. At 6/4 you are not being rewarded for those risks. Smugglers Haven at more than twice the price makes far more appeal.

Yes Day at 11/2 deserves a mention. Three placed efforts from his last three starts and a 32-day break after fresh conditions last time. Consistent, but winless recently and you need him to finally close the deal.

Selection: Smugglers Haven, 10/3 Boyle Sports and Betfred

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksHandmedownastar โ€” CopyBet Novices’ Hurdle (6:38, Worcester)
Odds: 3/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 10/3 Betfred, 3/1 LiveScore Bet)

A winner last time and stepping up in trip to 2m4f on Good ground, which this gelding’s staying profile suits well. Harry Cobden’s 23% course win rate is the best of any jockey round here and he rarely commits to rides at Worcester without a live chance. The 3/1 is honest rather than eye-popping, but in a race where the market favourite Elliott runner is beatable on the clock, this is the most solid all-round package on the card.
