Yarmouth, Thursday 30 April 2026 — Good To Firm
Yarmouth in late April on a sound surface. Seven races on the card, a mix of fillies' novice action and handicap puzzles. The going is Good To Firm throughout, which sorts the wheat from the chaff sharpish. Three races have been flagged for analysis today. William Haggas and William Knight both arrive with yards in decent nick, and that matters on a card like this where trainer form can tip a close call.
2:40 — Branfords Restaurant and Bar Fillies' Novice Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)
Selection: Fashion People (4/9, Bet365/William Hill/Coral)
No point overcomplicating this. Fashion People is a John and Thady Gosden filly who won on debut at Newcastle in November, led over a furlong out and won with something in hand. William Buick takes the ride, which is never a coincidence in a race like this. The Gosden yard has gone 13/40 in the last 14 days. That is a stable in full flow.
The opposition is thin. Baandee has been placed three times without winning and her turf form is unknown. Night Shining is an expensive purchase by Dark Angel but showed nothing alarming and nothing impressive at Newmarket last July. Venetian Sky showed a flicker of promise on debut but is still raw. Fashion People's form and connections put her in a different bracket to this field.
At 4/9 there is no each-way case and no value argument. This is a race to either take confidently or leave alone. Given the trainer stats and Buick's presence, backing her as a single for a small stake makes sense as a banker in multiples.
4:25 — Download The At The Races App Handicap (1m2f, Good To Firm)
Selection: Beach Point (4/1, Bet365)
Five runners makes this tight analytically, but the form angles here are genuinely interesting. Beach Point won at Sandown over this trip last summer when cheekpieces were fitted for the first time, did it well, and then ran respectably over this course and distance when finishing just behind A Major Payne on his most recent start. He already has a C&D run in the bank this season, which counts for a lot at a track that rewards those who know the layout.
William Knight's yard is running at 3/8 in the last 14 days. That is a proper hot streak. Cieren Fallon takes the ride.
A Major Payne is the obvious market rival and the cheekpieces being refitted there add intrigue. But Beach Point finished just behind him off the same mark and has the more straightforward profile heading into this. Lordsbridge Blu was bang there at Wolverhampton three days ago and merits respect, but his sole turf win came on AW and the trainer is 0/7 in the last fortnight. Golden Horse is a fascinating handicap debutant but well beaten in his final start and needs to show he stays and handles this level.
Beach Point at 4/1 with a yard flying represents solid value in a race where he ticks the right boxes.
4:57 — Sky Sports Virgin 512 Fillies' Handicap (7f, Good To Firm)
Selection: Zighy Each-Way (5/2, Bet365)
Eight runners, three places, and a clear form case. Zighy has won her last two starts, both on AW but both finishing strongly. The Spotlight note on her is telling: her strength at the finish last time out at Southwell, over 6f, suggests the step up to 7f today is a logical progression rather than a gamble. Up 6lb but there is room for more improvement in this filly.
Billy Loughnane retains the ride, and while George Boughey's recent numbers (1/14) are not spectacular, Zighy is clearly his live player today rather than a yard-form play.
Moonshine is the one to beat on raw figures and Ed Walker's strike rate (6/24) is strong. James Doyle rides and the form reads well. But she is a handicap debutant on turf for the first time in a proper race and that is an unknown quantity. Zighy has already won a handicap and done it well.
You'll Think Of Me is short enough and her Kempton win came in a five-runner race at odds-on. Angels' Share has ability but has not been seen since September. Brisk Symphony brings live claims with a hot stable behind her but the trip is new.
Zighy at 5/2 each-way covers the Moonshine threat while still giving you a genuine place return if things do not fall perfectly on a first turf start at this trip.
- Each-way terms: 3 places at 1/5 odds
Today's NAP
Odds: 4/9 — Bet365 (others: 4/9 William Hill, 4/9 Coral)
Debut winner for a yard that has gone 13/40 in the last 14 days, with William Buick booked and opposition that frankly does not come close to matching her profile. The price is short but as a banker leg in a treble alongside Beach Point and Zighy, she anchors the card. On Good To Firm, over a trip she has already handled, against maidens and unproven fillies, this should be straightforward.
