Yarmouth, Wednesday 13 May 2026 – Tips and Preview
A mid-week card at Yarmouth on good to firm ground, and there are three races worth getting stuck into. The quick surface suits plenty of these runners, and with William Haggas firing at a 26% strike rate over the last fortnight, his runners deserve extra attention. Let’s get into it.
2:40 โ Bodhi Solutions Handicap (5f, Good To Firm)
Selection: Almaty Star at 13/2 (Boyle Sports and Betfred)
Thirteen runners over the minimum trip on a quick surface, and this is a proper sprint handicap. Robert Cowell trains two of them, and the one to side with is Almaty Star, ridden by Jack Mitchell. The form reads 4-2421, which tells you plenty: this horse keeps arriving in the frame and those two second-place finishes and a win show a horse operating around the correct handicap mark. A RPR of 100 with a TS of 89 gives him genuine scope to compete at this level, and the good to firm conditions at Yarmouth will suit a horse that handles fast ground well under Cowell’s management.
Kinswoman at 13/8 is technically the form pick after her sequence of 21121, but Haggas fillies at short prices in fast-ground handicaps can be vulnerable to horses carrying less weight who thrive in these conditions. At 13/2, Almaty Star is the smarter play, and with four places on offer, there is genuine each-way appeal.
Each-Way Almaty Star, 4 places at 1/5 odds.
3:18 โ Download The At The Races App Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (6f, Good To Firm)
Selection: Diplomata at 5/1 (Boyle Sports and Betfred)
The market is split between Silent Beauty at 9/4 and Dubai Charm at evens, but the angle worth playing here is the Haggas runner, Diplomata, with Cieren Fallon in the saddle. Haggas has sent out 11 winners from 43 runners in the last 14 days, a yard clearly operating at full tilt, and when he pitches a debutante into a maiden at Yarmouth in May, it usually means the filly is ready to run a big race. No RPR yet, naturally, but the trainer-jockey combination alone is worth significant weight.
Silent Beauty is the other serious contender. Kevin Philippart De Foy’s stable is in decent form, and the horse already has experience, having finished second on debut, so the form angle is solid. But at 9/4 with no previous win to back it up, the price is tight. Diplomata at 5/1 from a yard running hot is a far more appealing risk-reward proposition. A small each-way play makes sense in a field where first-time-out Haggas runners regularly bolt up.
Each-Way Diplomata, 3 places at 1/5 odds.
4:28 โ AKS Skip Hire Handicap (7f, Good To Firm)
Selection: Noble Guest at 7/1 (Boyle Sports and Betfred)
With the non-runner declared, this is now effectively an eight-runner 7f handicap, and Beagle Bay at 10/11 is an odds-on favourite with only three career starts to his name, which carries inherent risk. Ralph Beckett’s yard is in strong form at 7/34 over the last fortnight, and the 2-14 form line from Beagle Bay is encouraging, but you are paying a steep price for the potential.
Noble Guest under David Egan is the better value. A form line of 5156-3 shows a horse that ran a solid third last time out and is working his way into form. George Margarson placed one from seven in the last 14 days, a yard ticking over rather than blazing, but Noble Guest’s TS of 86 is the highest in the field bar Beagle Bay, and that speed figure on good to firm ground over seven furlongs at Yarmouth is a genuine pointer. David Egan is a quality booking and rides the track well. At 7/1, this is fair value for a horse that has placed recently and clearly handles the going.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 5/1 โ Boyle Sports (others: 5/1 Betfred, 9/2 LiveScore Bet)
William Haggas is firing at over 25% with runners in the last fortnight and Cieren Fallon is a smart booking for any Haggas debutante. When this combination turns up at a track like Yarmouth in a fillies maiden with no previous form to fade the price against, the market tends to underestimate them. Go each-way to keep the downside manageable.
