Wednesday Racing: Yarmouth, June 10
Rain has arrived on the Norfolk coast and the going is Good to Soft at Yarmouth, which immediately sorts the field in several of today’s races. Six races on the card, three of which deserve serious attention. Roger Varian and the Gosden yard are both among the sharpest trainers at this track historically, and jockey Jack Mitchell carries a solid 16% strike rate here. Let’s get into it.
2:48 โ QuinnBet Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f, Good To Soft)
This is a competitive maiden on paper but two fillies stand out from the rest, and the market should tell you which way to lean nearer the off.
Starlight Speed is by Dubawi out of a 1m 2yo winner and carries the Gosden stamp. The stable returned 7/26 winners in the last 14 days, a 27% strike rate, and they won this very race last year. The Gosdens do not fire debutantes into sellers without intent. At 5/2, she is the price to beat.
But the selection is Shushu (4/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred), trained by Roger Varian, who hits at 21% here over a substantial sample of 284 runners. Varian’s yard has gone 5/20 in the past fortnight, a yard clearly in form. Shushu showed a clean debut when second of five at Haydock three weeks ago on soft ground, the exact conditions she faces again today. That experience matters in a field where several are unraced. Jack Mitchell takes the ride and he is no stranger to the winner’s enclosure at Yarmouth.
The each-way case is real at 4/1 in a field of 11 with three places paid. Each-Way

3:18 โ Download The QuinnBet App Handicap (7f, Good To Soft, 15 runners)
Fifteen runners in a 3yo handicap on softening ground. This is exactly the kind of race where the market gets it wrong and a price runner slips through. Four places paid, making each-way betting the only sensible approach.
Pennine Way Each-Way (9/2, Boyle Sports/LiveScore Bet) catches the eye. Jack Channon has an A/E of 1.31 at Yarmouth across 17 runners, a standout figure, and his yard has returned 3/20 in the last 14 days. The filly showed promise at maiden and novice level over shorter, the Catterick reappearance has blown away any cobwebs, and she arrives at her handicap debut with every reason to progress. Going suits, trip suits, and that 9/2 looks generous in a race where plenty carry question marks.
Jungle Knight at 5/1 (Boyle Sports/LiveScore Bet) also merits attention. Rob Hornby rides and carries a 16% course win rate with a solid A/E of 1.16. The horse shaped better than the finishing position suggests last time when looking outstayed over a mile at Haydock on Good to Soft. Back to seven furlongs, off a reduced mark, in similar ground conditions, he is competitive.

4:50 โ Royal Ascot On Sky Sports Racing Handicap (1m, Good To Soft, 11 runners)
The feature race of the day and the one that deserves the sharpest thinking. Sprightly Dance opens at 7/4 favourite on the back of a promising pedigree and a handicap mark that could easily be exploited. Roger Varian has trained her well, she won at Wolverhampton and showed pace on her Yarmouth debut on good ground. But the concern is real: she raced freely last time and weakened. Over a mile on softening ground at Yarmouth, that free-going tendency could cost her.
The value play is Padua Each-Way (5/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred). Hughie Morrison has gone 2/7 in the last 14 days and Harry Davies carries a 16% course win rate here with an A/E of 1.08. Padua makes his reappearance here after gelding surgery, the tongue-tie is removed, and stepping back up to a mile from seven furlongs suits his profile. His Haydock win last summer showed he can dominate when fresh and settled. The key question is whether the operation and the tongue-tie removal have addressed his free-going tendencies. At 5/1 with three places on offer, there is each-way value at the price.
Cavolo Nero at 4/1 is the chief danger. Blinkers applied for the first time, trip drops back from 1m2f, and he placed twice this year already. James Ferguson’s yard returned 1/6 recently but this horse is clearly being freshened up for a purpose.
Selection: Padua, 5/1 each-way (Boyle Sports/Betfred)
Today’s NAP
Odds: 4/1 โ Boyle Sports (others: 4/1 Betfred, 7/2 LiveScore Bet)
Roger Varian hits at 21% at Yarmouth from a large sample, his yard is firing at 25% over the last fortnight, and Shushu already has a debut run on soft ground under her belt from Haydock. That experience is a genuine edge in a field where several rivals have never seen a racecourse. Jack Mitchell knows the track and Varian knows how to place a filly. The 4/1 is fair value in a race the yard has the tools to win.
