Yarmouth Thursday Tips: June 11, 2026
Light rain and soft ground at Yarmouth sets the tone for today’s seven-race card on the Norfolk coast. Conditions will sort horses quickly, soft-ground performers come to the fore, and those who need a fast surface are best swerved. Roger Varian continues to fire at 7/30 over 14 days, and Jack Mitchell has a strong book of rides. Three races stand out for value, and one of them throws up a NAP that is too good to ignore at the current price.
2:45 Paul Corrigan Memorial Novice Stakes (6f, Soft)
Ten runners, but a fairly condensed form picture when you strip away the debutants and the no-hopers. Upper Hendersyde is the clear class act on breeding, a 220,000gns yearling who showed plenty on his Salisbury debut last month, but there are questions about form depth and the step up into softer ground is unproven. The market has installed him as favourite and at 11/8 there is precious little margin for error.
The more compelling angle is Nevasca Cinza at 9/4 with Betfred. James Fanshawe is running hot at 5/16 over the past 14 days, and this 3yo gelding has placed in all four career starts over six furlongs. The stable has fitted cheekpieces today, a clear signal they believe there is more to come. Yes, the Spotlight notes he was sent off odds-on and only ran third here last time on good ground, but today’s soft surface could be the key difference. Fanshawe at Yarmouth carries a 15% strike rate across 584 runners, and when the yard bothers with headgear it usually means business. At around 9/4, he represents fair each-way value in this sort of field.
Selection: Nevasca Cinza at 9/4 (Betfred/LiveScore Bet)
3:20 Winning Experience With Moulton Racing Handicap (5f, Soft)
Five-runner handicap, so no each-way frills here, but the form reading is pleasingly straightforward. Thunder Star is the standout at 10/3 with BoyleSports and Betfred.
All five career wins for this six-year-old mare have come over five furlongs on turf. She ran at Thirsk just six days ago, was beaten only a head on good ground, and comes into this race 1lb well-in under the BHA mark. The ground softening today is no concern at all according to the Spotlight, which explicitly flags she won’t mind what the weather does. Jessica Macey’s yard has been quiet of late, but the form on the horse herself does the talking. At 10/3, she is the shortest price on the card you can genuinely endorse without reservation, and this looks like a prime opportunity to go one better than her near-miss at Thirsk.
Selection: Thunder Star at 10/3 (BoyleSports/Betfred)
4:28 QuinnBet Handicap (1m3ยฝf, Soft)
Eight runners over the longer trip and the going is key. Yokohama heads the market at 10/3 on the back of his Newbury win, but the Spotlight is clear: his best form comes on good ground or faster. Soft conditions here could undermine him, especially now racing off a 5lb higher mark. Pass at favourite prices on unsuitable ground.
Fox Avatar Each-Way at 9/2 with BoyleSports is the play. Roger Varian at Yarmouth has a 21% course win rate across 286 runners, Jack Mitchell pairs up and carries a 16% course strike rate with a positive A/E of 1.11. Fox Avatar won twice last summer over 1m2f and 1m4f on the all-weather and he won on turf as a 3yo. The Spotlight is firm that his Kempton run 15 days ago was a needed comeback spin after nine months off. He drops into a Class 4 today, the trip is ideal, and there is a strong trainer-jockey combination familiar with winning at this venue. At 9/2 each-way (3 places at 1/5), you get three shots at a payout in an open eight-runner handicap.
Moonrunner at 3/1 is the obvious dangers flag. Progressive, beaten only a length on turf debut over soft ground at Haydock, stepping into handicapping for the first time. Charlie Fellowes has him fit and ready, but 3/1 is short enough that Fox Avatar at half a point bigger each-way is the smarter play.
Selection: Fox Avatar (Each-Way) at 9/2 (BoyleSports/Betfred/LiveScore Bet) โ 3 places at 1/5 odds
Today’s NAP
Odds: 10/3 โ BoyleSports (others: 10/3 Betfred)
Five turf wins, all at five furlongs, and beaten a head at Thirsk just six days ago off a mark she is now 1lb well-in under. Soft ground causes no issues whatsoever, she arrives here race-fit, and the opposition in a five-runner field does not match her consistency over this trip and this surface. In a race where the form is transparent, this is as close to a banker as Yarmouth serves up today.
