Yarmouth Tips: Thursday 2 July 2026

A tight six-race card at Yarmouth on a sunny afternoon with good to firm ground. The flat track suits horses that travel and quicken, and with several Godolphin newcomers on show, the market will tell you plenty. Three races stand out for analysis, with a clear NAP emerging from the apprentice handicap.

3:09 โ€” Weatherbys EBF Maiden Stakes (6f, Good To Firm)

Selection: Nabati (1/5, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Yes, the price is skinny. But this is a four-runner maiden and Nabati ticks every box. An 850,000gns Night Of Thunder colt for Charlie Appleby, he is a half-brother to Chicago Call, who has shown very smart form at six furlongs. William Buick rides, and Buick’s 22% strike rate at Yarmouth, combined with Appleby’s 29% course record, makes this partnership about as formidable as it gets at this track.

The only genuine danger is Can’t Stop for Richard Spencer, a 75,000gns Ardad colt who is a full-brother to Farough. Spencer’s yard is running at 18% here with an A/E of 1.17, meaning his runners tend to outperform expectations. Saffie Osborne takes the ride and she hits 16% at Yarmouth herself. If Nabati disappoints, Can’t Stop at 9/2 (Boyle Sports) is the most logical beneficiary.

Shoof for George Scott heads the ratings with course experience, but was well held at Goodwood on debut and nine lengths of form deficit is a lot to overcome, hood or no hood. Back Nabati with confidence and take Can’t Stop as a saver if the price holds.

3:40 โ€” Weatherbys Racing Bank Fillies’ Novice Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Selection: Gracious Gift (9/2, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Musical Times will go off at 1/6 and probably wins. But at those odds you are not getting value, you are just hoping nothing goes wrong. Gracious Gift at 9/2 is the play.

A Dubawi filly for Appleby on debut, she is a half-sister to Arabian Light, who showed very smart form at a mile and a quarter. The dam was also sharp at seven furlongs, meaning the trip looks tailor-made. Appleby runs two here, which slightly splits the stable focus, but Connor Planas has a 19% strike rate at Yarmouth with an A/E of 1.24, the highest of any jockey in the course stats. That 1.24 A/E tells you his mounts here outperform market expectations consistently.

Aunty Patsy is an 85,000gns St Mark’s Basilica filly on debut with a smart pedigree profile, and Silvestre De Sousa rides well at this track. She represents the main unknown quantity. But Gracious Gift’s breeding screams seven furlongs on fast ground, and at 9/2 in a five-runner field, the value is clear.

2:39 โ€” Seadell Shops ‘Hands And Heels’ Apprentice Handicap (1m3ยฝf, Good To Firm)

Selection: The Ubermensch (Evens, LiveScore Bet)

Four runners, good to firm, and a race that sets up beautifully for The Ubermensch. The four-year-old colt was beaten just 1ยผ lengths at Newcastle last time on the same mark he carries today. Tongue-tie and cheekpieces go on together for the first time, and when connections reach for a new combination of headgear, they usually have a reason. Michael Bell’s yard sits at 16% at Yarmouth with an A/E of 1.05, steady if unspectacular.

The concern is Pleasant Man, who won at Doncaster 12 days ago and comes here off a 3lb higher mark than that win. He is clearly in form and cheekpieces are new for him too. Joey Ramsden’s stable is winless in ten runs over the past fortnight, though, and the horse faces a 3lb rise from a course record that shows the Ramsden yard does not have a particular affinity here.

Hibernate for Ed Dunlop is interesting. A four-length winner at the penultimate start, but his most recent run was well below that, and Dunlop being 3/13 in 14 days suggests the yard is ticking over rather than firing. The Ubermensch’s consistency across fast ground and AW, combined with new gear that signals intent, gives him the edge at Evens.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksThe Ubermensch โ€” Seadell Shops Apprentice Handicap (2:39, Yarmouth)
Odds: Evens โ€” LiveScore Bet (others: 5/6 Betfred, 10/11 Boyle Sports)

Beaten just a length and a quarter at Newcastle last time on the same mark, consistent on good-to-firm and AW surfaces, and connections have loaded up with tongue-tie and cheekpieces together for the first time. That combination of unchanged handicap mark, proven going preference, and clear stable intent from the gear change makes this the most confident selection on the card. Evens is not a spectacular price, but in a four-runner field where the dangers have genuine question marks, it represents solid value.
