Yarmouth Tips: Thursday 23 July 2026

A seven-race card at Yarmouth on Good to Firm ground, and while this is no Glorious Goodwood, there are three races worth getting stuck into. The straight mile suits front-runners and those with a good cruising speed, and GTF at Yarmouth can be unforgiving for horses that need soft underfoot. Keep that in mind throughout.

William Haggas runs at 21% here from a big sample, Tom Marquand hits 18% at the track, and T J Kent’s A/E of 1.75 at Yarmouth is the standout number on the trainer board today. All three are represented this evening.

Only four runners but the market has split this neatly into two genuine contenders. Evenfall (8/11, George Boughey) is the jolly, a debutant from a yard firing at 5/20 in the last fortnight and with Boughey’s solid 17% strike rate at Yarmouth behind her. Boughey does place his two-year-olds to win first time out regularly, and Billy Loughnane takes the ride. She is bred to appreciate fast ground.

The selection, however, is Anchiano (13/8, George Scott, Tom Marquand) at a price that represents real value against an unraced favourite. Anchiano has already shown ability, finishing fifth on debut before stepping up with a runner-up finish. There is a form line to go on here, which cannot be said for Evenfall, and George Scott’s yard is in decent nick at 4/16 in the last 14 days. Marquand’s 18% at Yarmouth is the best number among jockeys on the card, and this horse has clearly improved through experience. At 13/8 against a filly with no racecourse evidence, take the one who has already been to school.

This is the most competitive race of the evening and the one worth getting creative with. Seven runners, a mile on Good to Firm, and the market is admirably open.

The angle here is Drifts Away Each-Way (6/1, T J Kent, Tom Marquand). Kent’s A/E of 1.75 at Yarmouth is the single most compelling trainer stat on the entire card. From 37 runners at this track, his horses consistently outperform their odds, which is exactly what you want when backing each-way in a seven-runner handicap. The horse’s last run shows a return from a break, and a yard with Kent’s Yarmouth record does not send horses to this track without meaning business. Add Marquand in the saddle, who again posts the best jockey number at this venue, and the combination is hard to ignore at 6/1.

Rogue Dynasty (3/1, James Owen, Harry Davies) also deserves a mention. Owen posts 18% wins at Yarmouth with a strong sample, his yard has been busy at 11/48 in the last 14 days, and Davies at 15% here is a respectable number. The 4-4-2-3 recent form shows consistency without a win, but with a mark that may underestimate her on this surface. She could easily place.

Four runners only, so this is a win-only market in practical terms. Hardy’s Hero (10/11, William Haggas, Tom Marquand) heads the market, and with justification. Haggas at 21% from 739 runners at Yarmouth is not a fluke, it is a genuine course-trainer combination that deserves respect. Marquand rides, the pair deliver here regularly, and the 15-232 form shows a horse not far off the mark.

The issue is the price. Odds-on in a four-runner handicap is never comfortable, and Caviar Cowboy (7/4, James Fanshawe) has shown more consistent improvement in his form figures, most recently finishing second, and Fanshawe at 4/20 in the last fortnight suggests the yard is ticking over reasonably. At 7/4 against an odds-on shot, Caviar Cowboy is the more palatable option for anyone reluctant to take a short price in a small field.
